Jon Rahm responds to savage dig from Ryder Cup heckler: "It was funny"
European Ryder Cup star Jon Rahm said he was targeted with an Ozempic jibe during his practice round at Bethpage Black in New York.
Jon Rahm says an Ozempic gibe from a United States Ryder Cup fan was "funny".
The Spaniard was targeted on the first tee at Bethpage Black on Tuesday morning before he played his practice round.
He is not the only European player who has been on the receiving end of some heckles from the New Yorkers.
Matthew Fitzpatrick fluffed a chip yesterday and was told "the green's that way".
So far, the taunts have been well-received by Luke Donald's dozen but the fans are expected to up the ante when the Ryder Cup gets underway tomorrow.
Collin Morikawa has called for the US fans to create "chaos" on Friday morning, even urging the usually reserved Cameron Young to throw a fist pump in a player's face.
Rahm told reporters on Thursday that he didn't know exactly what was said, but he found it amusing.
"He either said, 'Hey, Rahm, where is the Ozempic?' Or 'When's Ozempic?' Something 'Ozempic'. "I just don't know what word exactly. It was funny."
Ozempic is a medication that is used to treat diabetes, but many are using it to lose weight. Several A list celebrities and influencers openly use it.
"So far, the humour that's been there, it's really funny," Rahm said.
"I would imagine tomorrow things might turn a little bit but there's always funny ones, and not only towards me, towards everybody.
"I'm not going to say what they said, but yesterday on 17, me and Shane Lowry had a good laugh at something someone said in the crowd. Again, people can be really creative nowadays."
Rahm gives his version of Tyrrell Hatton story
In September, Tyrrell Hatton revealed he celebrated qualifying for Europe's Ryder Cup team with a "messy" night with Jon Rahm.
The Englishman said he woke up covered in his own vomit.
It coincided with Rahm winning LIV Golf's individual championship, so the pair went out to celebrate.
Rahm also gave his version of events.
"I don't drink a lot, but luckily I have a bigger tank to put it in," Rahm said.
"The main thing is obviously he had just found out he was qualified for the Ryder Cup, which being in LIV is extremely difficult.
"What he did is outstanding. I understand why he was - the pride he felt, why he wanted to celebrate. And plus being the end of the season for us.
"But the problem was the amount of things we mixed. I'm not going to get into amounts. I'm sure he did.
"But between wine, gin and tonic, Amaretto sours, one margarita for some reason, and then this strawberry lemonade vodka thing that we don't know what it was.
"The bartender was very creative. That was just a little bit too much, yeah.
"None of us were feeling good on Monday, but he was definitely feeling the worst."
