Patrick Cantlay has taken to social media to express his disappointment at "coming up short for the home fans" at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Cantlay, 33, only managed to amass 1.5 points individually at Bethpage Black in New York.

The American was one of only three players on Keegan Bradley's team to play in all five sessions.

The other two were Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.

Scheffler performed dismally given his lofty position as a runaway World No.1 and he took just 1 point, which came in his singles match against Rory McIlroy (1up).

DeChambeau also failed to fire for much of the week and he ended up with the same amount of points as Cantlay.

Though the LIV Golf superstar did at least overturn a five-hole deficit on Matt Fitzpatrick in his singles to earn a tie to keep USA in the game.

Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young top scored for Team USA as both players took 3 points from four sessions.

Tommy Fleetwood was the top overall points scorer with 4 points from five sessions.

Cantlay was the only American player to lose his singles match on Sunday, falling 2&1 to Ludvig Aberg.

It was a spirited final-day charge from Team USA, who started the Sunday singles matches seven points down at 11.5-4.5.

They rallied to get within three points at one stage when the Ryder Cup was still alive.

But Shane Lowry put a dagger to the hearts of the hosts with making three birdies on the final four holes to earn a crucial tie against Russell Henley and help Europe reach their required total of 14 points.

As the remaining results played out, Europe then ran out 15-13 victors to become the first away side to win the contest since Medinah in 2012.

The latest biennial dust-up between United States and Europe was marred by shocking verbal abuse and insults to the European players, largely all aimed at Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica.

But despite all of that, Cantlay still expressed his disappointment at not being able to send the American fans home with a win.

"Playing in the Ryder Cup and representing the US is the greatest honor in our game," Cantlay wrote on X / Twitter.

"Really tough to come up short for our home fans but proud of this team and the unforgettable memories with them.

"Special thank you to our captain Keegan Bradley for everything he put into this and did for our team."
