European Ryder Cup hero Shane Lowry aimed a subtle dig at Keegan Bradley as he celebrated victory at Bethpage while revealing a motivating comment from the USA captain last year.

Shane Lowry could not resist the urge to have a not-so subtle dig at Keegan Bradley as he revealed one of the quotes that Team Europe used for motivation at the Ryder Cup.

Lowry posted a hilarious image of himself with the trophy in the locker room, and on the wall behind him was a bullish comment from the USA captain that he was surprised to see aired in Full Swing on Netflix.

Bradley was celebrating victory in the Presidents Cup with his American team-mates following the seven-point trouncing of the Internationals at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada when he made his bold prediction for Bethpage.

"I'm gonna get criticised as the captain next year," he said. "They're going to underestimate me, they're going to doubt me.

"I've been doubted by whole f***ing life, but that's when I do my best work.

"We are going to go to Bethpage to kick their f***ing ass."

The Netflix cameras were filming at the time, and Bradley took issue with his comments being aired on Full Swing, claiming that events in the locker room should be kept under wraps.

“I thought I was in a locker room with my team,” said Bradley at Bay Hill in March. “You know, that’s what happens in a locker room. I meant no disrespect to the Europeans. This was a time that we had just won the Presidents Cup, I was in the locker room and it was my turn to address the team. And I meant no disrespect, I was more speaking to our guys.

“I certainly thought I was in the locker room. But, you know, in the world that we live in I have got to be more aware that there’s always somebody filming. Again, I meant no disrespect, but we were excited. I had just won, I had just won the Presidents Cup that I hadn’t played in 10 years, it was an exciting moment for me.

“That’s me, I’m a pretty excited person and I’m very excited about the Ryder Cup. I think my enthusiasm towards the Ryder Cup showed there. It was meant for our team. Again, no disrespect to the other guys.”

Luke Donald had the comment plastered onto the wall in the European team room at Bethpage, and Lowry was happy to have the poster in the background as he posed for the camera, in his Ryder Cup pyjamas.

He looked a little worse for wear after celebrating victory in New York, where he birdied the final hole of his singles against Russell Henley to snatch a pivotal half point that ensured Europe would retain the trophy.

"Life long dream today," he wrote. And in his first post of Monday morning, it was no surprise to see him add: "I might have a hangover!"
