Ryder Cup 2025 Sunday Singles Live: Europe close to victory, but Hovland is out

Live updates from the final day of The 45th Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, where Europe are closing in on a historic victory after dominating the foursomes and fourballs. Can the USA pull off the mother of all fightbacks?

Europe are closing in on what is widely expected to a record-breaking win in New York as they head into Sunday's 12 singles matches with an unprecedented seven-point lead over Team USA.

The deflated home side have won just four matches over the first four sessions and need to break several records of their own if they are to wrestle the Ryder Cup out of Luke Donald's hands.

How has USA captain Keegan Bradley got it so wrong? GolfMagic editor Andy Roberts has his say here from the media centre at Bethpage.

Europe lead 12-5 and need to get to 14 points to retain the trophy, but they will be determined to clinch outright victory as early as possible before putting the hammer down to claim the biggest winning margin in history.

Veteran Justin Rose, who has been outstanding with Tommy Fleetwood over the first two days, leads the visitors out against Cameron Young, with Fleetwood next up to face Justin Thomas.

Clash of the day will be match 4 as world No 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has lost all of his four matches so far, faces world No 2 Rory McIlroy - unbeaten in his four outings so far.

And Donald's team have already got a half point in the bag in unfortunate circumstances as Viktor Hovland was forced to pull out of the singles due to his neck injury. That means Harris English will have the day off for Team USA.

Keep it here as GolfMagic brings you live coverage of the action on the final day.

Overall score: USA 5-12 Europe

Gallant Rose hanging on in match 1

1UP Cameron Young v Justin Rose (9)

Rose is in very close at the 9th, but he's suddenly got a putt for the half after Young holes a cracker.

But the veteran makes no mistake, and he's just one behind at the turn.

18:56
Fitzpatrick is FIVE up !!

Bryson DeChambeau v Matt Fitzpatrick 5UP (7)

DeChambeau now looks like he'd rather be anywhere else but Bethpage.

Another par putt misses the mark at the 7th, and Fitzpatrick has won five of the first 7 holes.

18:54
Hatton stunner at the 1st

Collin Morikawa v Tyrrell Hatton 1UP (1)

Hatton hits a wild drive into the left cabbage at the 1st, but he hits a delightful 2nd in close and wins the hole with a birdie

Tommy back to 2 up

Justin Thomas v Tommy Fleetwood 2UP (7)

Thomas goes wild with his second to the 7th and he can't get up and down for par.

Fleetwood makes a good 4 and regains his 2 up lead.

18:47
Good response from Henley

Russell Henley A/S Shane Lowry (2)

Henley made a mess of the 1st, but he bounces back at the 2nd with a nice birdie from 10 feet to level against Lowry

18:45
Straka finds another big putt

JJ Spaun v Sepp Straka 2UP (3)

Straka has had a very impressive week, and he's gone 2 up on the US Open champion after holing from long range at the 3rd.

Nervy start for Hojgaard

1UP Ben Griffin v Rasmus Hojgaard (1)

You have to feel for young Hojgaard, who has not played since Friday afternoon.

And it's a poor start for the Danish rookie at the 1st, pulling a putt for par to gift the hole away

18:39
Fitzpatrick is flying ... 4 up on DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau v Matt Fitzpatrick 4UP (6)

This is incredible.

Bryson misses another putt, and Fitzpatrick rewards another precise approach with a putt to match at the 6th.

The Sheffield star is 4 ahead!

State of Play

8 matches on the course. Europe up in 5, USA lead 2, and one is all-square

18:37
Young leads Rose

1UP Cameron Young v Justin Rose (7)

It's a comedy of errors at the 7th.

Rose gets into a jam and misses a 6-footer for par after Young raced his birdie putt an uncomfortable distance long.

But the American salvages a par and regains the lead.

18:33
Lowry leads early

Russell Henley v Shane Lowry 1UP (1)

Europe are now ahead in five matches after Lowry's par is enough to win the 1st against Henley, who tugged his second into the left rough and couldn't get up and down.

18:31
Fitzpatrick 3 up after 5 holes

Bryson DeChambeau v Matt Fitzpatrick 3UP (5)

This is some performance from Fitzpatrick, who has lost his previous 3 Ryder Cup singles matches.

He's just popped in a 15-footer for birdie to win the 5th against DeChambeau, who has a face like thunder right now.

Thomas holes out from the fairway!

Justin Thomas v Tommy Fleetwood 1UP (6)

What a shot from Thomas at the 6th.

He's got 79 yards to the pin for his second, and he's only gone and holed it!

The cheers could have been heard in Rhode Island, let alone Long Island!

18:26
Schauffele 2 up through 2 against Rahm

2UP Xander Schauffele v Jon Rahm (2)

Not the start Rahm was hoping for.

He can't make birdie at the 2nd, but Schauffele can as he bins a cool 20-footer to double his lead.

18:25
Scheffler pulls level against McIlroy

Scottie Scheffler A/S Rory McIlroy (4)

Scheffler finds the heart of the green in two at the par-5 4th, but McIlroy goes long and left.

His pitch doesn't grip as he'd have liked and, after the world No 1 lagged for birdie, McIlroy's putt for the half drifts right.

18:23
Flying start for Straka

JJ Spaun v Sepp Straka 1UP (1)

The US Open champion has been one of the USA's better players this week, but he's playing catch-up early after the Austrian hits a great second to 8 feet and nails the putt to win the 1st.

18:21
Young levels top match

Cameron Young A/S Justin Rose (6)

Young is just outside Rose after two good approaches to the 6th.

The American rolls his in for birdie, but Rose can't follow him in.

Back to all square.

18:18
Despair for Thomas at the 5th

Justin Thomas v Tommy Fleetwood 2UP (5)

JT has a putt to pull one back at the 5th, and it is agonisingly close to dropping in the right side.

His ball ends up an inch behind the hole, and the look of frustration tells the story.

18:14
Europe ahead in top FIVE matches!

Patrick Cantlay v Ludvig Aberg 1UP (2)

The leaderboard makes grim reading for the USA right now, although that's been the case since Friday lunchtime.

Aberg drains a nice birdie putt at the 2nd, and the top five matches are all blue.

18:11
Clumsy start from Rahm

1UP Xander Schauffele v Jon Rahm (1)

That's clumsy from the Spaniard at the 1st.

His second wanders past the pin and he overcooks the birdie putt down the hill.

Rahm misses the return, and there's some red on the board.

18:09
Rose wins the 5th, Europe up in top 4 matches

Cameron Young v Justin Rose 1UP (5)

Bit of drama at the 5th as Rose gets a free drop with his ball embedded in the lip of a greenside bunker.

He gets up and down for par, and that's enough to win the hole as Young misses from 10 feet.

18:05
Tommy 2 up on Thomas

Justin Thomas v Tommy Fleetwood 2UP (4)

Two mighty blows at the 4th leaves Fleetwood with 25 feet for eagle, but two putts is enough as Thomas can't scramble a birdie.

18:03
McIlroy goes 1 up on Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler v Rory McIlroy 1UP (2)

Goodness me, it gets even better for the visitors.

Scheffler tugged his drive into the trees, his ball dropping into a dreadful lie in the fescue.

He knifed his second over the green although he almost holed the chip back.

Here's McIlroy, 15 feet for the win, and it's in.

18:00
Nervy moment for Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay A/S Ludvig Aberg (1)

Almost a gift for Aberg at the 1st as Cantlay's par putt circled a few times before dropping!

17:58
Bryson 3-putts from 10 feet at the 3rd

Bryson DeChambeau v Matt Fitzpatrick 2UP (3)

It's advantage DeChambeau at the 3rd, where Fitzpatrick finds the left bunker before Bryson bashes a beauty to 10 feet.

But Matt's escape is fantastic and it's conceded, and DeChambeau then gets a rush of blood and races his birdie putt way long.

And he misses the return! What a gift for the Englishman
