The 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup team is beginning to take shape.

Qualifying for Keegan Bradley's side began last March and will conclude on 17 August following the conclusion of the BMW Championship.

At this point, the top six players in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings will qualify automatically for Bradley's team.

Bradley, of course, will then have six captain's picks to choose from.

At this stage of the 2024-2025 season, Bradley will have mixed feelings about how his team is shaping up.

Scottie Scheffler was forced to delay his start to the season after he cut his hand on the stem of a wine glass over the Christmas period.

But the American has since reinforced his status as the best player in the world with victory at the second men's major of 2025.

Scheffler was simply dominant as he won the PGA Championship - his third major title overall - at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.

It represented his 15th PGA Tour title since his breakout 2022 season.

Scheffler also won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at the beginning of May and now has a comfortable lead at the top of the Team USA Ryder Cup standings.

Bradley will hope that Scheffler will be able to improve upon his 0-2-2 record when the biennial contest was held at Marco Simone in Italy two years ago.

Scheffler's return to form meant that he was the first player to qualify automatically for the US team.

Unsurprisingly, JJ Spaun made a huge move following his remarkable victory at the US Open

The 34-year-old admitted 12 months ago he thought his career was essentially over as he appeared destined to lose his Tour card.

But the California native adopted a 'f--- it' mentality and is now a major winner.

Spaun's victory at Oakmont saw him jump to third in the rankings ahead of LIV Golf recruit Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa.

Cause for optimism?

Justin Thomas - a controversial pick by Zach Johnson in 2023 - finally ended a winless drought in April at the RBC Heritage.

Thomas had not won since the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

He backed up his victory at Hilton Head with another top five finish at the Truist Championship

It will frustrate Thomas, though, that he has missed cuts at the US Open and the PGA Championship. He finished T36 at The Masters.

Russell Henley - who partnered Scheffler at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Canada - picked up his fifth PGA Tour win at the aforementioned Arnold Palmer Invitational.

And Brian Harman won his fourth PGA Tour title at the Valero Texas Open.

Brian Campbell, Joe Highsmith, Harris English and Ben Griffin have also won on the PGA Tour this season.

As has captain Bradley, who broke Tommy Fleetwood's heart at the Travelers Championship.

Bradley then admitted for the first time he would entertain the possibility of picking himself.

The 39-year-old jumped up to ninth in the US Ryder Cup standings following his win at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut.

How are the LIV Golf players getting on?

As mentioned, DeChambeau is the standout player.

The American played in the final group alongside Rory McIlroy at The Masters and was very much a factor at the PGA Championship.

He came into the US Open as the defending champion but had an off-week at Oakmont, missing the cut by three strokes.

Though it is more than likely at this point that DeChambeau will represent the red, white and blue in September.

Brooks Koepka missed the cut at The Masters and the PGA Championship.

The five-time major champion revealed he was read the riot act by his golf coach Peter Cowen ahead of the US Open and it appeared to pay dividends.

Koepka was in contention after 36 holes but struggled over the weekend.

At this point it also looks as though we may have seen the last of Dustin Johnson in the Ryder Cup.

Johnson missed cuts at The Masters, PGA Championship and the US Open and has struggled for form on the PIF-backed breakaway.

Elsewhere, Bradley will be keeping tabs on Patrick Reed

Reed has an overall Ryder Cup record of 7-3-2 from three appearances.

His last appearance in the showdown was in 2018 at Le Golf National in Paris, but by finishing second at The Masters, Reed demonstrated that his game is still there.

How the U.S. Ryder Cup team is selected

The top six players in the U.S. Ryder Cup points standings automatically qualify.

The points system rewards players for their performances in major championships and PGA Tour events.

More points are awarded for majors, hence why Xander Schauffele has already amassed a significant amount.

The qualifying period spans a two-year cycle, starting after the previous Ryder Cup and concluding a month before the next.

Captain's picks

Bradley will have six captain's picks but this has not always been the case.

Before the 2008 Cup at Valhalla, the U.S. captain was given two picks by the PGA of America.

The number was increased to four by then-captain Paul Azinger.

It was a strategy that ultimately proving successful, as the red, white and blue ran out 16 1⁄2 – 11 1⁄2 winners.

Tom Watson decided to have three captain's picks in 2014 and Jim Furyk chose four in 2018.

Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson opted for six in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
