Atlanta Drive GC | 6 | 4 | New York GC |
Atlanta Drive Golf Club could hardly have scripted a better opening night to the 2026 TGL season.
In front of a lively crowd at the SoFi Center in Florida, the reigning champions edged New York Golf Club 6–4 in a dramatic, back-and-forth season opener that set the tone for another high-octane campaign.
The tech-driven league, created by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy alongside TMRW Sports co-founder Mike McCarley, returned for its second season on Sunday with a fitting showdown: a Finals rematch between Atlanta and New York. And while the cast looked slightly different, the intensity felt familiar.
Atlanta were forced into a late lineup change just hours before the match, with Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover ruled out through injury. Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners stepped in alongside Billy Horschel, while Justin Thomas — sidelined as he recovers from surgery — still made an appearance on the ESPN broadcast to mark the league’s return.
The opening nine holes, played in the triples format, were a tense affair. Early momentum was hard to find, with six of the first seven holes halved. New York finally broke through on the 4th to grab a narrow advantage, but Atlanta responded late. A win on the 8th leveled the match, and a perfectly timed Hammer on the 9th delivered a pivotal two-point swing, sending Atlanta into singles play with a 3–1 lead.
From there, the spotlight shifted to individual battles. Gotterup stretched Atlanta’s advantage by getting the better of Cameron Young on the 10th, but New York clawed back quickly. A conceded hole on the 11th and a Young victory on the 13th tightened the contest, while Matt Fitzpatrick’s clutch putt on the 14th erased Atlanta’s lead entirely and set up a winner-take-all finale.
With everything on the line, Horschel delivered the moment of the night. Atlanta threw the Hammer on the 15th and final hole, and Horschel answered with a stunning 37-foot putt — one of the longest makes in TGL history — to secure the decisive two points and seal a 6–4 victory.

It wasn’t flawless, and it certainly wasn’t easy, but for Atlanta Drive GC, the result was familiar. The champions began their title defense the same way they ended last season, finding a way to win when it mattered most.
