Tiger Woods’ private jet was reportedly spotted landing at Augusta Regional Airport on Saturday — immediately sparking speculation that the 15-time major champion could be preparing for another appearance at The Masters.

With just three weeks to go until golf's first major of 2026 begins at Augusta National, the sighting (scroll below) quickly set the golf world buzzing. But the real reason for Woods’ visit may have little to do with an early practice round.

Woods' 17-year-old son Charlie Woods was competing at the prestigious Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club, located around 20 minutes from Augusta National.

Charlie endured a difficult week at the elite junior event, finishing last in the field at 26-over par after four rounds at Sage Valley in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Even so, Woods’ presence in Augusta inevitably raises the question: could a Masters return still be on the table?

The five-time Masters champion has certainly not ruled it out.

During an appearance last month while hosting the Genesis Invitational, Woods admitted that playing at Augusta National was “not off the table”, immediately fuelling speculation that fans could see him attempt another comeback at golf’s most iconic tournament.

He then further left the door open for a stunning return at The Masters when appearing in the commentary box.

Woods has not competed in an official Tour event since missing the cut at The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July 2024.

Since then, the 50-year-old has been focused on recovering from the seventh back surgery of his career, which he underwent in October 2025.

Encouragingly for golf fans, Woods has since been cleared by doctors to begin hitting balls again as he slowly builds up the strength and repetition required to compete at the highest level.

If he were to tee it up at Augusta National when the Masters begins on Thursday 9 April, it would represent yet another remarkable comeback in a career that has already produced several.

Of course, Charlie's latest tournament was likely the primary reason for the trip.

The Junior Invitational at Sage Valley is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious events in junior golf, regularly attracting many of the top-ranked young players from around the world.

While Charlie struggled to keep pace with the field this year, the experience remains a valuable one for the teenager as he continues his development in elite junior competition.

Top-ranked junior Miles Russell, who will join Charlie at Florida State in 2027, became the first player to win the tournament in back to back years. Russell's 15-under par total (64-70-72-67) saw him prevail by three shots.

Tiger has frequently travelled to support his son at high-profile events, making the Augusta sighting far less mysterious than it initially appeared.

Still, there could be another reason for Woods spending time in the Augusta area.

Woods' design company, TGR Design, has been heavily involved in the redevelopment of Augusta Municipal Golf Course — known locally as “The Patch”.

The project includes a new nine-hole short course called The Loop, which is scheduled to officially open to the public on 15 April 2026, just after Masters week.

Located around five miles from Augusta National, the facility will also feature a 12-hole putting course and is designed to provide an affordable and accessible golf experience for local players.

Given Woods’ close involvement in the redevelopment project, a visit to check on progress ahead of the opening would not come as a surprise.

Whether Woods ultimately decides to compete in this year’s Masters remains one of the biggest talking points heading into the tournament.

William Hill bookmakers currently place the odds at 2/1 that the 15-time major champion tees it up at Augusta National.

One thing, however, is certain.

Woods will be at Augusta during Masters week regardless.

As a past champion, he will attend the famous Champions Dinner on the Tuesday evening — hosted this year by defending champion Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam with his victory at the 2025 Masters.

For now, the sighting of Woods’ jet has done exactly what anything involving the golfing icon tends to do.
