Golf fans have been left stunned after shocking footage has emerged of Wyndham Clark narrowly avoiding disaster during the second round of the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club.

The 2023 U.S. Open champion found himself deep in the rough when a recovery shot flew dangerously close to a group of spectators and a cameraman lining the fairway.

Video circulating on social media shows Clark hacking his ball from thick rough before it whistles between the heads of two people standing only yards away from the shot.

While most fans agreed Clark was not to blame given the severity of the lie, the incident (watch below) quickly reignited debate around spectator safety and crowd positioning at professional golf tournaments.

Golf Digest writer Christopher Powers posted on X: “Wyndham Clark almost caught a body at Aronimink. Not his fault. You absolutely get what you deserve if that’s where you’re gonna stand for that shot.”

Another fan wrote: “If it wasn’t for the camera, Wyndham Clark may have taken someone out today at Aronimink. Mind-boggling that people choose to stand this close to players even when a ball is sitting on a perfect lie, let alone the horrendous one he had here.”

A spectator who was standing beside the incident also shared his own footage online (watch below), captioning the clip: “Came within inches of being whacked by a Wyndham Clark rough shot today at Aronimink.”

The frightening moment capped a frustrating week for Clark.

After opening with a three-over-par 75, the 32-year-old American briefly fought back into contention with three birdies on the front nine during Friday’s second round.

However, a costly triple-bogey seven at the 11th all but ended his hopes of making the weekend, with Clark eventually missing the cut by a single shot on five-over par.

Clark was among several high-profile names to exit early from golf’s second major of the season, including Bryson DeChambeau, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre.
