Justin Thomas rumour confirmed days before 2025 PGA Championship

Justin Thomas has begun working with a new golf coach ahead of the second men's major of the year at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

PGA Championship hopeful Justin Thomas is back working with a golf coach, according to a report.

Thomas' father Mike was the golfer's full-time instructor until the two-time major champ decided he wanted to take ownership of his swing.

That decision was made following the conclusion of a dismal 2023 season that saw Thomas struggle at the Ryder Cup in Rome.

Thomas comes into the second men's major of the year with reason for optimism having finally ended his winless drought on the PGA Tour.

The 32-year-old won the signature RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links a week after the 2025 Masters Tournament

He had not won since he hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy above his shoulders at Southern Hills in 2022 after he beat Will Zalatoris in a playoff.

Golf Channel have reported Thomas' new coach - Matt Killen - is on site with the golfer in North Carolina.

Killen has known Thomas since he was a junior golfer and has previously helped him out with putting and his short game.

He also served as a second set of eyes for Mike when he was his son's full-time instructor.

Thomas is among the late starters on day one of the PGA Championship.

He will tee off alongside Collin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson.

There has been plenty of discussion so far about how the course will play given the horrific conditions earlier in the week.

Competitors in the field have told reporters the greens are holding up well and will likely be firm and fast.

That being said, Quail Hollow looks as though it will be a bomber's paradise.

Multiple PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan has already provided the quote of the week to the Athletic: "I guess I would say Quail Hollow is like a Kardashian.

"It's very modern, beautiful and well-kept. But it lacks a soul or character."

Thomas was inclined to agree in his pre-tournament news conference when he spoke of Rory McIlroy's prospects this week.

"First and foremost, he's really, really good at golf, so that definitely helps,” Thomas said.

"I would argue he's the best driver of the ball I've ever seen, and that is extremely important here.

"But I think his shot shape, I think this golf course fits a high draw really, really well. There's a lot of tee shots, whether it's holding fairways or fitting doglegs, taking bunkers out of play, whatever it is.

"He just has—when he's on, he has such control of that driver, it seems like he can hit it in a window and an area that some guys are trying to hit short irons."

He added: "That's a tremendous advantage or threat at any golf course, but I feel like a place like this, where it doesn't necessarily require a lot of thought or strategy off the tee, it's generally pulling out driver and just I need to hit this as far and straight as possible, and he's really, really good at that.

"That's something, like I said, that is an advantage at any golf course, but I think just the shot shape and that is a good combination."
