Tiger Woods' opening round of the US Open went from bad to worse at Shinnecock Hills on Thursday.

Woods appeared to have arrested the slide of his nightmare start with a birdie at the fifth, but despite pars to the 10th, Woods bogeyed the 11th and then strung together consecutive double-bogeys at 13 and 14 to fall to 8-over par and all-but eliminate his hopes of contending for a 15th major as early as Thursday.
