PXG makes its biggest leap yet with the new 0311 GEN8 Irons
Armed with more adjustability and a purer profile, PXG's new crop of forged irons might just the breakthrough the company needs to truly challenge the big OEMs.

PXG has had a big start to 2026, and for the first time in a while it truly feels like there's sizeable momentum behind Bob Parsons' namesake golf brand.
The brand's new Lightning driver series dropped at the end of last year to sizeable acclaim, and just weeks later the brand pulled off a major coup by luring white hot PGA Tour rookie Marco Penge away from Mizuno and into a long-term equipment deal.
While PXG has always caught eyes for the unique design of its clubs and, formerly, the truly premium price tag they once carried, the brand has mellowed out just a tad in recent years. Its gear is still on the pricier end, but is now priced to form a real alternative to the premium OEMs.
The common longtime criticism of PXG has been that the actual performance of their products never quite lived up to the billing, however they've made serious strides in this department as well. No more so is this the case than in their new 0311 GEN8 irons, which seem well-placed to be far and away the company's best to date.
Much like Cobra, PXG has expanded its tour iron range to comprise not one, not two, but three models, introducing a new forged model with game improvement characteristics for the first time. The T iron remains true players' iron of the bunch, with the most compact profile and an emphasis on precision, while the P hits something more of a traditional players' distance iron with a little added forgiveness.

New for 2026 is the XP, which sits alongside models like the Titleist T250 and Cobra 3DP X as something straddling the line between a players' distance iron and an out-and-out game improvement club (true to form, PXG calls it 'Xtreme Performance'). Focused around speed and forgiveness, the XP retains the slightly more compact look of a traditional forged iron while using a hollow-body design to pack in lots of additional tech aimed at jacking up launch, C.O.R. and ball speed as much as possible.
The highlight development across the entire 0311 GEN8 range is the introduction of dual perimeter weighting, which essentially means each iron now comes with a pair of adjustable tungsten weights placed towards each end of the head.
In addition to making the new clubs look, admittedly, a little bit busy, the new weights have a bunch of benefits. They push more weight towards the perimeter of the club for a start, increasing MOI. However the key plus is the range of fitment options it opens up beyond that of your standard loft and lie angle, allowing PXG's fitters to tweak and experiment with different weights to find the exact formula that works for a player's swing and desired ball flight.
We were lucky enough to test this fitting process early on at PXG's flagship store in south London, and can confirm it really does work – however it does come with the caveat that to get the most out of these irons you really do need to get fitted in person at one of PXG's fitting centres.

Beyond the weights, there's plenty of other new tech to get excited about as well. Each iron has a hollowed-out forged design filled with QuantumCOR: a proprietary polymer that maximises energy transfer and dampens vibration for a purer sensation on impact, as well as an internal toe-biased tungsten weight for added forgiveness and speed on off-centre strikes.
Each Gen 8 Iron has a forged HT1770 maraging steel face, which is the brand's thinnest ever for even more speed and feedback. Deep Core Rebound technology carves out additional internal space between the face and the polymer core to aid rebound and make for even more explosive speed.
The rest of each club is five-times forged from 8620 stainless steel, which is the same type of steel you'll find in PING's Blueprint irons.
Priced at £1,194 for a 5-PW set, the PXG 0311 GEN8 Irons are available now online and at a PXG fitter near you.
