Why TAG Heuer's new golf watch will cost you more than a new set of Mizunos
As used by Tommy Fleetwood, the Swiss luxury brand's latest spin on the golf watch is here. Here's the story behind the price tag.

As one of the most forward-thinking names in the grand, often traditionalist world of Swiss luxury watches, TAG have long been at the forefront of the industry's foray into the smartwatch sector.
The brand's flagship smartwatch, the Connected Calibre, was a first for the industry on many fronts, combining high-end fitness and productivity features with an elevated approach to the watch's construction, re-imagining the smartwatch experience through the lens of a true luxury giant.
Very quickly the company also recognised the potential for the model to appeal to high net-worth golfers as well, releasing the first the golf-centric Connected Calibre Golf Edition back in 2018 and following up in the years since with four consecutive updates.
We loved the Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition when it released back in 2022, naming it one of the best golf GPS watches you can buy. Now, the fifth-edition of the storied smartwatch is here, and a new Golf Edition has been announced in tow.

As with previous TAG Connected releases, the watch tips the scales of what a golf GPS watch costs, retailing at around £1500. This, of course, isn't much compared to the company's mechanical watches, but is firmly in the high-end bracket in the golf industry (although it's worth mentioning that Garmin's all-in-one MARQ GPS tool watch costs roughly the same).
The TAG Connected Calibre E5 follows roughly the same formula as previous smartwatches from the house, with a couple of significant internal and external updates. The watch now uses TAG's own in-house TAG OS software, moving away from a custom build of Google's Wear OS the watch used previously, offering what TAG says a cleaner interface, improved legibility, and faster, more intuitive navigation. Battery performance has also been extended across the range.
The E5 also sees the introduction of a 40mm variant of the watch for the first time, giving ladies and smaller-wristed people a more wearable option outside of the 45mm case the Connected Calibre has long been offered in – however given its need for a larger screen, the Golf Edition itself will remain limited to a 45mm option only..
As always, premium materials and luxury finishing are a consistent theme throughout the watch as well, with the Golf edition rendered in a black DLC-coated titanium with a stylised rubber strap for on-course comfort and weatherproofing. A choice of digital faces replicating those of iconic TAG Models like the Carrera and Aquaracer is available to browse on the watch, including special Golf Edition-exclusive faces designed to fit its unique white and green colour scheme.

TAG have upped the golfing and wellness capabilities of the watch even further for the E5 edition. The brand's golfing software has been reimagined and beefed up to put it in league with other class-leading GPS brands, with full GPS data for over 40,000 courses and hole layouts with auto-zoom that adjust dynamically as the player advances.
This is paired with enhanced auto-scoring functionality that requires no interaction with any other device. Improved shot detection algorithms and GPS convergence data also make the general golfing experience on the watch much faster and smoother.
The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 Golf Edition will be available from mid-October at a RRP of £2100. You can find out more at Tag Heuer's website.
