Bryson DeChambeau has revealed that he plays "zero" rounds of golf in his spare time to practice as he sees it as a waste of time compared to being on the driving range.

Speaking to GOLF Magazine on The Drop Zone podcastDeChambeau was asked how many times he can be found on the golf course when he's not playing tournament golf.

Bryson DeChambeau reveals why he plays

"Zero," said DeChambeau. "I don't play any rounds.

"Maybe if I'm fortunate enough to get on Cypress Point or Pine Valley, Augusta, somewhere like that, I will play but it is very very rare that you'll see me on the golf course."

The US Open champion was then asked if he actually enjoys playing golf and DeChambeau explained that he doesn't like to take his game too seriously if he wants to enjoy himself.

"The only time I like playing is when the sun is setting and I'll go play like five holes and I'm just enjoying the time, nothing about the golf swing, just hitting it as hard as I can and wedging it close and putting, not really focusing on anything.

"When I'm trying to enjoy golf I don't play golf, I enjoy golf when I'm really doing that, but for my job I've got to play golf and I've got to play good, so I better be prepared and try and figure stuff out.

Many professional golfers who play on the PGA and European Tour often play different courses in their free time as a means of practice, but DeChambeau believes spending too much time away from the range is a waste of time.

"I feel like if you spend four hours on the golf course, that's four hours you could have been spending trying to figure something out with your golf swing that could make you more consistent, so when you do play tournament golf and the time comes that it's absolutely important to play good golf, you're ready for it and that's my whole goal.

"If I go and play golf, I'm hitting what hopefully 65 shots in the span of four hours, whereas in four hours on the range I could be hitting 200 to 300 golf balls.

"There's no much more input and I can figure so much more out."

During the 91-day halt of the PGA Tour, a lot of the world's biggest players were seen posting their rounds of Instagram, making sure they were ready for when the action resumed, but DeChambeau revealed he didn't play a single full round of golf.

"During quarantine I didn't play one full round of golf. The only round I tried to play and I was done after eight holes was Colonial. I went out and played Colonial just to see like okay I haven't been out on the golf course for a while and by the third hole I was like this is a waste of time, I'm done, I wanted to go after three holes."
