Patrick Reed hits SHOT OF THE DAY on day one at The Masters

Patrick Reed produced the shot of day one at The Masters when sending his second shot from behind a tree in the pinestraw next to the pin for a tap-in birdie to end his round.

Reed, who is bidding to win his second major title and second Green Jacket following his 2018 triumph, carded a mix bag of seven birdies and three bogeys to open with a solid 4-under 68, a score that was matched by five-time Masters winner Tiger Woods

The American eluded to being much more "aggressive" during a round that saw Augusta National play as soft and receptive as it may ever have done in Masters history - reflected none better than 50 players being under par before darkness suspended play late on Thursday.

"It definitely was wet, but with how much rain they’ve had throughout the past couple nights and also how much rain they’ve had today, the golf course held up really nicely," said Reed.

"They definitely have figured that out, and I expected it to be a lot softer out there on the fairways, and this afternoon it seemed to dry out nicely."

He added: "You definitely find yourself being more aggressive and attacking more flags. If you’re on, you’re going to light the place up.

"But if you’re off a hair and you’re on the wrong side of some slopes, you’re still struggling to get up and down and try to make par and kind of eliminate the mistakes.“
