From flying under the radar to lifting one of junior golf’s most prestigious trophies, France’s Callixte Alzas delivered a final-round masterclass to capture the 2025 Carris Trophy at Luffenham Heath in England.

Starting the fourth and final day seven shots off the pace in sixth place at 4-under par, the 18-year-old Parisian fired a stunning 5-under-par 65, the joint-lowest round of the day, to prevail by one stroke on 9-under par.

With six birdies on his card, including two in a row on 15 and 16, Alzas surged to the top of the board while those around him faltered down the closing stretch.

"I couldn’t have dreamt of a better ending," said Alzas of Saint Cloud.

"It’s been an amazing week at Luffenham Heath, and to come out on top feels surreal."

Alzas added: "It was a difficult day, conditions weren’t easy with the wind and pin positions, so I’ve played some amazing golf today.

"I really wanted to make a great round, and I was quite surprised to be honest, but it’s been a fight these past four days.

"This is a great trophy and I’m so happy."

The Carris Trophy is the English Boys' Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and is open to golfers aged under 18 on 1 January of the year of the championship.

First staged in 1935 at Moor Park, the tournament returns to it's spiritual home at four or five year intervals reflecting the inauguration of the trophy at the course.

For this year's championship there were 20 different nationalities taking part with over half the field (74) playing their golf outside England.

The overall result of the Carris Trophy contributes towards 2025 Junior Ryder Cup qualification, which ends at the R&A Boys’ Amateur Championship next month.

After the tournament, England Golf President Alistair Booth paid a heartfelt tribute to the 112 dedicated volunteers whose unwavering passion and commitment shaped the success over the course of the week.

President of Luffenham Heath Golf Club Peter Recordon said: "On behalf of all members of Luffenham Heath, we congratulate the winner of the 2025 Carris Trophy, Callixte Alzas from France, who triumphed with a total score of 271 strokes for a 9-under par total.

"After a final round of 65, the Frenchman claimed victory in classy style.

"The Rutland motto 'Multum in Parvo' has rarely seemed so appropriate."

Elsewhere, England's AJ Van Emmenis, the youngest player in the field at 14, was the winner of the Hazards Salver that is awarded to the leading GB&I player under the age of 16.

The Cuddington golfer shot 71, 70, 71, and 69 to finish on 1-over par and two strokes clear of Frankie Morton.

"Coming in here, I didn’t have high expectations, and this is much more than I wanted," said Van Emmenis.

"I was aiming to make the cut as this is the first time out of five I can play the event and take it from there.

"It was my first four-day event, and this has unlocked another level to my game, so I’ll take a lot of confidence."
