Tiger Woods has never had a hole-in-one in competition at TPC Sawgrass, but young Charlie Woods has now gone one up on his dad.

Woods Jnr lit up the final day of the Junior Players Championship on the iconic Stadium Course, making an ace on the third hole to lift his spirits after a disappointing first two rounds.

The 15-year-old was 14 shots off the lead after rounds of 76 and 75 left him in a tie for 43rd in the 77-player field, but he made a big move in the right direction on Sunday.

Woods started his final round on the 10th tee of the famous PGA Tour venue and home of The Players Championship, which Tiger Woods has won twice in 2001 and 2013.

The teenager mixed three birdies with as many bogeys over an inconsistent first 11 holes, and he was even par for the day when he reached the short third hole, playing 177 yards over water.

He watched with intent after making perfect contact with a mid-iron, and his ball pitched and gripped the green before rolling gently into the cup for the first ace of the tournament.

His celebrations with his playing partners were muted, but he will leave TPC Sawgrass with a lasting memory despite not being in contention for the title.

And it's a memory he will be able to watch over and over again after his shot was captured on video and posted on the American Junior Golf Association's various social media platforms.

Perhaps overwhelmed by his moment of magic, Woods came back to earth with a bump on the next hole as he ran up a double-bogey six and he dropped another shot at the fifth to slip back to 8-over-par.

But he clawed one back at the next before parring in to complete a level-par 72, his best round of the event, and although he climbed 11 places up the leaderboard, it was not quite enough to breach the top 30.

Woods would ultimately finish 16 shots behind champion, Miles Russell, who held off a late charge from Bailey Sutter to clinch a two-shot victory.

Sutter stormed into contention with seven birdies in a dazzling nine-hole stretch, although his only blemish of the day at the 18th took a little gloss off his 65 as he set the target at seven under.

But overnight-leader Russell was up to the challenge, and a useful birdie at the infamous 17th gave him some breathing space up the last as he closed out victory with a round of 70.
