Abacus using natural materials for AW 14

ABACUS SPORTSWEAR, an Official Licensee of The 2014 Ryder Cup, has underlined the importance of natural fabrics within its technical, layered golf clothing systemfor Autumn/Winter 2014.

The Swedish golf clothing brand, a pioneer of high-performance stretch waterproof fabrics, also believes natural fabrics, particularly merino wool, still play a vital ‘layering’ role and will help golfers perform, whatever the weather.

Chris Mattsson, Head designer at Abacus Sportswear, said:“Among the many innovative, technical materials we use in our garments there is still a very important role for natural fabrics, especially merino wool. Its fibres readily absorb moisture (almost one-third of its own weight in water), but release it too, preventing a clammy, cold feeling you can experience with other fabrics.

“Merino wool does not cling to the skin like nylons or cottons – it is also very strong and durable meaning garments last longer. It allows for air circulation next to your skin, but its insulation properties mean it has the capability of keeping the body at an even temperature.”

Abacus recommends three layers of clothing during winter golf sessions – a base-layer, mid-layer for warmth, and an outer-layer for protection.

Abacus base layers, including the Slope and Yarc garments, feature DryCool - where perspiration is moved from the body to the fabric’s outer surface to evaporate quickly, leaving the wearer dry and comfortable.

Its 100% merino wool Milano Pullover is a perfect warm second layer to act as a highly breathable conductor that transports excess moisture to the surface – or to the third layer – while keeping the golfer comfortable.

Abacus Sportswear recommends its Waterville Softshell, Nipton or Walton jackets as an outer layer to protect fromcold, wind and rain. These highly technical garments protect golfers from the elements, while staying true to their core principles of remaining breathable and stretchable.
