Black Pearl finishes make them stand out from the crowd

If you're one of those golfers waiting for the snow to melt, Santa's sleigh to have been parked for another year and the mist surrounding the economy to have lifted, before you make a decision on your golfing armoury next season, here's some clubs you must try.

Cleveland Golf has revealed some real black beauties with its latest CG16 irons, featuring the laser milled zip-grooves on the faces of each club in the set, that proved so effective in its world class wedges, thanks to the friction and ball-stopping spin generated.

Not so much backspin, more reverse thrust!

Lighter than their predecessors, the clubs - due to be released in February - have a large cavity behind the head that helps to get the ball airborne more quickly because of the lower, deeper centre of gravity created.

Another innovation is the clearly marked lofts etched into the heads to help players identify and fit the degrees between clubs to their game and extend those gaps into the wedges.

Designed to play like longer, penetrating wedges, the clubs have stronger lofts than the CG15s but will help the low to mid-handicapper achieve even more control.

Cleveland also is introducing the CG16 Tour irons, again with a black pearl finish, but aimed at the better player who demands a thinner top line and smaller cavity back for the more precise ball-striker and the player who likes to work the ball through the air.

The 'zip grooves', 25% bigger to conform to Tour regulations, also feature 'laser-milled' texture lines between each groove to increase surface roughness and improve spin control.

Powered with dynamic golf shafts, the Cleveland CG16 Tour irons have smaller offset than the CG16.

Recommended retail prices for each model have yet to be decided.
