In the Bag: Michael Hoey

Titleist staffer Michael Hoey

Titleist Brand Ambassador Michael Hoey produced a calm and composed display this weekend to secure victory at the M2M Russian Open on the European Tour. Hoey followed opening rounds of 70, 67 and 65 with a final round 2-under par 70 to complete a multiple shot victory, marking his fifth career European Tour title. Hoey has now entered the winners circle in each of the last three seasons following wins at the 2011 Madeira Islands Open, 2011 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and 2012 Trophée Hassan II. Joining Hoey in victory this weekend was Pro V1 loyalist Mark Wiebe, who came through a thrilling play-off to win the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. After darkness called a halt to play on Sunday evening, Wiebe returned this morning to win his maiden Senior Major title ahead of fellow Pro V1 loyalist Bernhard Langer.

Hoey trusted a host of Titleist equipment en route to victory in Russia, including the Pro V1 golf ball, 913 D3 driver, 913F fairway metal, 712U 2, 3 and 4 irons, AP2 irons and Vokey Design SM4 sand and lob wedges. Hoey entered the final round at Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club with a five shot lead and his 16-under par total was enough to finish four shots clear of the field and claim victory. As well as being the choice of the champion, Titleist was also the overwhelming golf ball of choice in Russia, with 95 players in the 108-man field putting their trust in the feel and control of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, compared to 10 for the nearest competitor.

At The Senior Open Championship, Mark Wiebe emerged victorious from an all Titleist Pro V1 play-off against fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Bernhard Langer. Both players finished three shots ahead of the field on 9-under par after shooting final rounds of 66 and 70 respectively. Following a stunning round of 66 on Saturday, Langer had a chance to secure the win in regulation but a double bogey at the last left him tied with Wiebe, who went on to secure victory with a par at the fifth play-off hole. Titleist golf balls were also the choice of the field at Royal Birkdale, with 97 players putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, compared to 12 for the nearest competitor.

So far in 2013 13,724 players have teed up a Titleist across worldwide professional tours, compared to 2,045 for the nearest competitor proving that more players at the top level choose to play Titleist golf balls. Victories this weekend on the European Tour and Champions Tour also boost Titleist’s 2013 worldwide golf ball win count which now sits at 84, compared to 28 for the nearest competitor.

A fifth career European Tour title for Titleist Brand Ambassador Michael Hoey, coupled with a maiden career Major for Titleist golf ball loyalist Mark Wiebe at the Senior Open Championship, continues to prove that more of the world’s best players trust the performance, quality and consistency of Titleist to deliver success.
