British team create Bloodhound Driver to break carry record

ZEN Golf are creating the world's most-technologically advanced driver and they aim to break the world carry record with it.

The driver, which dismisses R&A and USGA regulations, is being developed by F1 engineers and will need to beat the current carry record of 408-yards and ten-inches.

Nick Middleton, founder of the Zen Golf project, said: “Now that Golf is an Olympic sport, this Bloodhound Driver project will drive forward the momentum from London 2012 and will create an enduring legacy through the great work being produced by British sports engineering and innovation."

“The club will be a completely new design, with grip, shaft and club head all being created from the archetypal clean sheet of paper” added Middleton. “This is an opportunity for British design and engineering to show that it still leads the world – and in the most spectacular way possible.”

The record attempt is set for 2015 on the Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, and the  inspiration behind the Bloodhound, Richard Noble OBE who himself set a new land speed record in 1983, will be a keen observer.

The company are also creating a car to break 1,000 mph, which would be a land speed record, and although the driver’s technology is being kept under wraps, Middleton admits the products will share some DNA.

“The technical challenges facing Bloodhound SSC as we attempt to break the 1,000 mph barrier will undoubtedly lead to a quantum leap forward for British engineering,” said Noble. “I’m really excited to see how these emerging technologies can be harnessed to break barriers in Golf Sports engineering”.

The Zen Bloodhound Golf team will be keeping golfers updated with a video diary and news blogs.
