We all have our pet peeves when it comes to golfing lingo and terminology, and Rory McIlroy is no different.

Speaking on the newest Rory and Carson podcast available this on week on GOLFPASS, McIlroy addressed why he recently posted on his Instagram: "You do not golf, you play golf."

McIlroy claims he is irritated when anyone uses golf as a verb instead of a noun.

"I was watching CNN recently and they were talking about Donald Trump 'golfing'," said McIlroy.

"It sort of bothered me that he was golfing instead of probably doing other stuff he should be doing, but I think I just hear it so often now.

"You don't tennis, you don't football, you don't basketball. You play tennis, you play basketball, you play football. You know, you're not golfing. You're going to play golf."

McIlroy is currently enjoying a mini break from the game before competing in the ZOZO Championship in Japan from October 24 to 27.

The World No.2 will also tee up in a skins game against Tiger Woods, Hideki Matsuyama and Jason Day prior to the start of the tournament. Watch the hilarious promo video here

McIlroy will then head to China for the WGC HSBC Champions tournament and then compete in the European Tour season finale in Dubai.
