Ian Poulter's son Luke has been named in the Great Britain and Ireland team for September's Walker Cup against the United States.

The 22-year-old will be part of a 10-man squad for the 51st edition of the biennial amateur tournament, which will be played over 5-6 September at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland.

Luke Poulter will be making his second appearance in the Walker Cup, having made his debut 12 months ago at Cypress Point.

His father Ian was part of the European team which won the Ryder Cup in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018.

He contributed two points last time out as Dean Robertson's side were on the receiving end of a heavy 17-9 defeat.

Great Britain and Ireland will be aiming to win the Walker Cup for the first time since 2015.

They will be led, once again, by Robertson.

"It is a tremendous honour to captain Great Britain and Ireland again and I'm excited by the team we have selected for the match at Lahinch," said Robertson.

"We have a really exciting blend of players who have experienced the Walker Cup before and others who have earned their first opportunity through some excellent performances over the last year.

"We have players who have won important championships, performed at the highest level in amateur golf and demonstrated that they can deliver results in international match play."

He added: "Playing at Lahinch will make this a particularly special Walker Cup.

"We know there will be fantastic support for the team in Ireland and our players will be determined to give those supporters plenty to get behind.

"We learned a great deal from Cypress Point and everyone involved is hugely motivated by the challenge ahead."

Robertson's team will also include the newly-crowned U.S. Amateur champion Jack Whaley.

On Sunday, Whaley became only the third Englishman since 1911 to lift the trophy as he defeated America's Jay Leng Jr 4&3 over 36 holes at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Whaley's victory even drew praise from Tiger Woods.

The U.S. Walker Cup team has also been finalised.

Captain Nathan Smith's 10-man team includes Kihei Akina, Ryder Cowan, Ethan Fang, Josiah Gilbert, Stewart Hagestad, William Jennings, Jay Leng Jr, Miles Russell, Preston Stout and Tyler Watts.

The red, white and blue lead the overall series 40-9.

The Walker Cup had traditionally been held in an odd number of years but has now moved to an even-year cycle, starting from 2026.
