PGA Tour star Tony Finau has withdrawn from this week's Baycurrent Classic in Japan.

Finau's WD was confirmed by the PGA Tour on Monday.

No official reason has yet been disclosed for his withdrawal.

Finau, 36, has been replaced in the field by Sam Ryder.

Last week Finau was playing over on the DP World Tour at the coveted Dunhill Links in Scotland.

But the six-time PGA Tour winner had another week to forget and was again out of the money following rounds of 74, 72 and 69 across the three rotation of courses (Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews) .

The Dunhill Links marked Finau's first start in eight weeks on Tour since last competing in the FedEx St Jude Championship where he finished T64.

That saw him ejected from the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Finau has endured one of his worst seasons on the PGA Tour in 2025.

He has also only chalked up one top-10 finish all year.

That came with a T5 at the Genesis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods in February.

Finau underwent knee surgery on 15 October 2024 for a torn meniscus and cartilage removal from his left knee.

But despite recovering from injury, Finau has still managed to play in 21 tournaments so far this season.

He played in all four majors this season and had mixed results.

Finau missed the cut at The Masters in April and then finished T19 at the US PGA in May.

He then chalked up finishes of T38 at the US Open in June followed by a T56 at The Open in July.

Finau started the season in 26th position in the world rankings and he now looks on from the 66th rung of the ladder.

His card is safe for next season on the PGA Tour but he looks on from a lowly 70th position in the FedEx Cup standings at the moment.

As a result of his significant dip in form Finau failed to make last month's Ryder Cup, something he also missed in 2023.

He has, however, represented his nation in the three last Presidents Cup matches, something he will no doubt be keen to continue in 2026.

The newly-named Baycurrent Classic was formerly known as the ZOZO Championship, which first began in 2019.

Tiger Woods won that week.

The Baycurrent Classic is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour.

The title sponsorship changed hands to Baycurrent this season.

Baycurrent is a Japanese consulting firm.

The 2025 Baycurrent Classic is being staged at Yokohama Country Club.

The tournament was previously staged at ACCORDIA GOLF Narashino Country Club.

Nico Echavarria is the defending champion.

Xander Schauffele starts the 2025 Baycurrent Classic as the tournament favourite.

It's a tournament dear to his heart with Japanese connections in his family.

Schauffele's wife Maya is of Japanese descent, and his mother Chen Ping-Yi grew up in Japan.

Schauffele is the highest ranked player in the field at fourth in the world.

Collin Morikawa is also competing in the Baycurrent Classic, another player with Japanese ancestry with his father being Japanese-American.

Morikawa won this event in 2023.

Both Schauffele and Morikawa are making their first competitive starts since competing in the Ryder Cup two weeks ago at Bethpage Black in New York.

Luke Donald's Team Europe defeated Keegan Bradley's Team USA 15-13.

It marked the first time an away team had won the Ryder Cup since Medinah in 2012.

Schauffele performed admirably to his credit at the 2025 Ryder Cup as he was the joint top-scorer for Keegan Bradley's Team USA with three points from four sessions.

Cameron Young also got three points for USA.

Morikawa on the other hand had a week to forget earning just half a point.

Tommy Fleetwood top scored overall at the Ryder Cup with four points.

Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard joins Morikawa and Schauffele as the only Ryder Cup players competing at the Baycurrent Classic.

Hojgaard was of course on the winning team but the rookie was the only player to leave Bethpage without any contribution of points to his name.

He did however bounce back last week when wrapping up his PGA Tour card with an impressive T3 at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Hideki Matsuyama will take a flurry of home fans with him at the Baycurrent Classic.

Matsuyama won this event in 2021.
