Dubai Invitational preview: Five things to know

The DP World Tour season is well underway but the first event of the calendar year is the inaugural Dubai Invitational.

The tournament will be held over 11-14 January at Dubai Creek Resort.

It is a 72-hole individual strokeplay tournament with a twist.

Over the first three days, professionals will compete with an amateur in a team event.

The final day is reserved for professionals only. There is no cut in the individual strokeplay.

GolfMagic has listed what you need to know about the Dubai Invitational

1. Rory McIlroy makes his first start of 2024

The Northern Irishman has once again decided to start his campaign in Dubai instead of Hawaii.

After the Dubai Invitational McIlroy will turn his attentions to defending the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

McIlroy will then have a stretch of playing the signature PGA Tour events ahead of the Masters.

He looks set to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players.

2. Prize money

The Dubai Invitational has the largest purse of the DP World Tour season so far.

The winner will take home $425,000 from the $2.5m purse.

3. The Dubai Invitational marks the first of seven tournaments in the International Swing

The winner of the International Swing will take home a bonus of $200,000.

Australian Min Woo Lee won the Opening Swing thanks to his consistent displays on home soil.

4. The Dubai Invitational sees an amateur paired with a professional

DP World Tour chief executive Keith Pelley is among those listed in the field.

Jimmy Dunne, the vice-chairman of the PGA Tour's policy board, will also be teeing it up.

Dunne helped broker the 6 June framework agreement by reaching out to LIV Golf supremo Yasir Al-Rumayyan via WhatsApp.
