Andy Murray accepts invite to take part in prestigious golf tournament
Sir Andy Murray has applied to take part in the Sunningdale Foursomes next March with English professional golfer Eddie Pepperell.
Eddie Pepperell jokingly called himself "a content machine" as he confirmed Sir Andy Murray has accepted his invitation to apply for the Sunningdale Foursomes.
Murray has always played golf but appears to have become increasingly obsessed with the sport since he hung up his racquet for good after the Paris Olympics last August.
The 38-year-old Scot, who won Wimbledon twice and the US Open once during his illustrious career, now plays off a handicap of 1.4.
He played in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth in September where he revealed his post-retirement project is to become a scratch golfer and one day be good enough to at least tee it up in a regional qualifier for The Open.
Pepperell, who recently got his DP World Tour card back at the final stage of qualifying school in Spain, said he reached out to Murray over a text message.
He told the most recent edition of The Chipping Forecast: "I thought, I've got this nice idea.
"I'm going to text him now that I've got his number and ask him if he wants to play the Sunningdale Foursomes with me.
"And he responded, '100 per cent, that would be brilliant.'"

Pepperell added: "So I entered us, put a little bio in - 'multiple grand slam major tennis champion, DP World Tour player' - and hopefully we [will] be accepted.
"In fact, his handicap just met the criteria by chance, and this is genuine, 1.4. So he's just eligible by handicap, and me too.
"We shall hopefully give it a go, and I think it would be a really fun thing to do."
It comes after Murray revealed he genuinely enjoys the sport so much he is genuinely considering becoming a caddie for a professional player one day.
