Legendary golf commentator 'not required' at $10m DP World Tour finale
Long-time Sky Sports golf commentator Ewen Murray confirmed he was not needed to call the action at the DP World Tour Championship.
Long-time Sky Sports golf commentator Ewen Murray has claimed he was deemed surplus to requirements over the weekend at the DP World Tour Championship.
The European-based circuit brought the curtain down on its 2024/2025 campaign in the Middle East with Masters champion Rory McIlroy clinching his seventh order of merit title despite losing to Matthew Fitzpatrick in a play-off.
It was a dramatic conclusion and a fitting send-off, delivering arguably one of the best finales we've ever witnessed at the $10m championship in Dubai.
But Murray - who has been calling the action since 1989 and considered by many as the voice of golf - wasn't on the mic.
Murray watched the action unfold from his sofa and wrote on his personal X account that it was a "fabulous end to the tour season".
Asked by one user why he wasn't on there, Murray replied: "Not required this week."
He added that he has no plans to retire just yet and explained that the channel now has a "hybrid team" to cover its events.
"I'm still in good shape... ish, so not done yet," Murray added.
Not required this week Tony. But a really exciting final round lies ahead. Clearing the leaves in the garden, like painting the Forth Bridge!! However, therapeutic!

Several golf fans reached out to Murray on X, explaining that it was a shame the decision was made.
"No way can Sky have made a decision to keep everyone but you," one wrote.
"You're streets ahead of all the others, nothing against them but you are the main man for Sky Sports golf commentary."
GolfMagic has contacted Sky Sports for comment.
