Rory McIlroy with greatest ever moment in DP World Tour history at Irish Open
Rory McIlroy recorded the loudest ever cheers in DP World Tour history when burying a 25-footer for eagle to force a playoff at the Irish Open.

The DP World Tour, formerly the European Tour, has enjoyed many memorable moments down the years since it formed in 1972. But Rory McIlroy just produced without question the greatest spectacle of all time at the 2025 Amgen Irish Open.
Needing an eagle to force a playoff in front of his expectant home fans, McIlroy sent his second shot into the heart of the green and to 25 feet on the par-5 18th.
McIlroy was greeted with cheers and applause as he walked up to mark his ball, but the World No.2 looked somewhat deflated as he knew the odds were now heavily stacked against him as he went in search of a second career title at the Irish Open, once again at The K Club.
But this is Rory McIlroy, a man for the biggest stage of them all.
McIlroy faced a similar situation 12 months previous to force a playoff at the Irish Open at Royal County Down. That time his putt was nearly half the length, but he would agonisingly miss on the right side of the cup to finish one back of Rasmus Hojgaard.
This was the Northern Irishman's shot at redemption, and he duly delivered.
McIlroy drilled his putt straight into the back of the cup and it led to the loudest cheers you will ever hear at a Tour event.
Fans of all generations were up in arms both in the gallery and at home on the sofa.
We'll also tip our cap to Andrew Coltart in the Sky Sports Golf commentary box for adding to the spectacle with his delivery.
'WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT! MCILROY EAGLES THE LAST AND DRAWS UP ALONGSIDE LAGERGREN AND THE CROWD GOES NUTS!' said an ecstatic Coltart who nearly fell out his chair.
"Just box office," said stunned co-commentator and former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
Five-time winner and Sky Sports Golf's David Howell added: "I don't think I've ever seen a moment like that in European Tour history."

McIlroy's eagle putt saw him card a 66 to match Joakim Lagergren at 17-under par in the clubhouse.
After two tied holes, once again back up the par-5 18th, McIlroy sealed the deal on the third extra hole after Lagergren found the water with his second shot.
To further add to the spectacle, the victory marked McIlroy's 20th win on the DP World Tour.
McIlroy is now closing in on a seventh DP World Tour Rankings title, which would pull him to within one of all-time record holder Colin Montgomerie.
McIlroy's eagle putt on the 72nd hole will be replayed countless times for years to come.
"I wanted to just be aggressive with it," said McIlroy when speaking to Sky Sports Golf after seeing out his win.
"It was such a cool moment, such a cool feeling for that to go in. That gave me a chance in the playoff."
On winning a fourth title of the season and a second Irish Open title, once again at The K Club like he did in 2016, an emotional McIlroy labelled the final round as one of the most special of his career.
"This has exceeded all of my expectations," said an emotional McIlroy.
"I thought it was going to be a nice homecoming, obviously coming home with a green jacket and all that, but this has been absolutely incredible. I'm just so, so happy I could play the way I did this week for all of them and get the win.
"This is absolutely incredible. I love coming home, and I love playing in this atmosphere. Moments like these are the things you're going to remember well after your career is over. This is a really special day."
McIlroy strode off the back of the 18th green and was then greeted by his wife Erica and daughter Poppy for hugs and kisses.
What a day.
What a moment.
What a golfer.
Rory McIlroy, take a bow.
It's moments like that on 18 that really do help grow the game...
