Brooks Koepka withdrew from LIV Golf's stop in Dallas through illness after smashing a tee box marker in frustration.

Koepka had only played eight holes of the opening round at Maridoe Golf Club before deciding to call it quits.

The American, 35, has reportedly been feeling under the weather all week and had gotten off to an horrific start.

The four-time major champion was already six-over par for his round, with a card that contained two triple bogeys and one birdie.

Koepka walked out of the $25m tournament after hitting an erratic drive down the ninth hole.

His golf ball went left towards the trees and a furious Koepka then slammed his driver into the ground before taking a swipe at a tee box marker.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy was criticised for a similar outburst during the 2025 US Open and was likely fined.

LIV Golf's communications team has reported Koepka may return to play in either the second or third round.

But his score will only count towards the team total. He was replaced in in the field by Luis Carrera.

Koepka's withdrawal was the first of three changes on day one at the PIF-backed league's ninth event of the 2025 schedule.

Before the round began, Koepka's former teammate Matthew Wolff withdrew through injury and was replaced by stand-in Ollie Schniederjans.

The Cleeks' Frederik Kjettrup also couldn't overcome an injury and was replaced by Max Rottluff.

Brooks Koepka has admitted he is not himself

Koepka has endured a frustrating 2025.

The Smash GC captain told reporters before the 2025 US Open he has been unpleasant to be around as he struggled to find form.

He missed the cut at the 2025 Masters after unravelling at the 36th hole with a devastating quadruple bogey.

Koepka followed that with another missed cut at the PGA Championship after putting together rounds of 75 and 76.

"From the first weekend in April until about (the beginning of June), you didn't want to be around me," Koepka previously said.

"It drove me nuts. It ate at me. I haven't been happy. It's been very irritating."

Koepka improved with a top 15 finish at the US Open but also revealed to reporters after the second round that his golf coach, Peter Cowen, read him the riot act before the major began.

The golfer said he would keep what was said private but Cowen's dressing down was so loud Justin Thomas almost thought of checking in on him.

Koepka said it wasn't the first time Cowen has scolded him but admitted he probably needed to hear some uncomfortable truths.

"I don't like having 'yes' people around me," he added. "I just want somebody to tell me the truth, tell me what's going on, what they see.

'If I start swaying from being Brooks Koepka, then I want someone to call me out on it, and he did a helluva job on it."
