Former LIV Golf recruit Eugenio Chacarra has outlined aspirations to become the best player in the world.

The 26-year-old Spaniard joined the breakaway tour straight out of college in 2022 and spent two years in the league, winning once, before he was deemed surplus to requirements.

On his way out the exit door, Chacarra hit out at LIV's broken promises, complaining about the lack of world ranking points and access into the four men's majors.

Although he admitted that he was grateful for the lifechanging money he received for joining LIV and the prize money he earned, the golfer explained that he was left unfulfilled and is now chasing his PGA Tour card via the DP World Tour's 10 cards initiative.

And during a recent interview with Today's Golfer, Chacarra outlined his aspirations to reach the number one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking.

"I was the best player in college golf, and I want to be the best player in the world," Chacarra told the publication.

"I have a long way to go. I need to work hard. I need to get better, but that's the goal that I've been doing since I was little."

Reflecting on his time with LIV Golf, Chacarra - who is currently ranked 129th in the OWGR - added: "I'm very thankful for LIV, but I also made the right decision when I decided to just not even try to stay there.

"I can tell you it helped a lot. My family and I are set for life, and that was why I went there too. It was three great years where I learned a lot.

"I think I got better, too. I learned a lot from great players out there, but obviously playing golf and having now been able to have a great life and give my kids the life that I wanted to give them is something very unique, and it gets some pressure out of my head."

He added: "Professional golf is tough, and you can lose a lot of money if you don't have good weeks.

"Obviously, having the chance, being lucky that I played great at the right time, I went to LIV, and I got money to go there.

"I played some good golf out there and made myself set financially. It helps me mentally, and I'm here to try to win tournaments, try to get better, and that's what we’re trying to do."

Chacarra has only played in two major championships throughout his short career.

Earlier in the month, he had the opportunity to make his third start at next month's U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

At a 36-hole qualifier in Dallas, Chacarra came up short but wound up in a sudden-death play-off for one of two alternate spots.

Chacarra decided to simply leave the property, sparking confusion.

But he has now revealed that it was his priority to fly over to Europe for the Soudal Open.

Chacarra said that he wanted to make sure he was as prepared as possible for the DP World Tour event in Belgium.

"When you fly to Europe, you lose a day, and that was the only chance I had to get there on time to get some rest and practice the course," he added.

"I wasn't good enough to make it, and it wasn't worth it to lose my flight and my team's flight for an alternate spot that I also didn't know I was going to get. I wanted to prepare for Belgium the best way possible."

How close is Chacarra to securing a PGA Tour card?

Chacarra has made a solid start to the 2025/2026 DP World Tour season.

After 13 events, Chacarra finds himself 18th in the Race to Dubai Rankings.

The top 10 players, not otherwise exempt, earn PGA Tour cards for the following season.
