PGA Tour provides Rory McIlroy media update ahead of RBC Canadian Open

The PGA Tour has confirmed when Rory McIlroy is scheduled to speak with the media ahead of the RBC Canadian Open.

The PGA Tour has confirmed Rory McIlroy is scheduled to speak with the media on Wednesday at the RBC Canadian Open.

McIlroy, 36, shunned the media all four tournament days during his last start at the PGA Championship from 15-18 May.

The Masters champion did speak to reporters at his press conference on the eve of golf's second major of the season.

But McIlroy then chose to snub all media requests as soon as an update emerged during the first round that his 'gamer' driver had failed a latest CT test with the USGA.

A number of other players, including eventual PGA champion Scottie Scheffler, also saw their 'gamer' drivers fail tests ahead of the PGA.

Scheffler addressed his own issue during his post-tournament press conference.

Only McIlroy's team chose to remain silent as the five-time major champion slumped to a lacklustre T47 at one of his favourite Tour stops, Quail Hollow Club.

The Northern Irishman then caused further controversy when he rejected an invite to compete in Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament this week.

Nicklaus was "surprised" by his decision, and admitted McIlroy had not even bothered to let him know. He found out in the media.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan defended McIlroy's decision to miss the event.

LIV Golf's Phil Mickelson then took aim.

It marked the first time since 2017 that McIlroy had failed to rock up at the coveted PGA Tour event.

McIlroy has now missed three Signature Events on the PGA Tour this season, the most of any high-profile player on the circuit.

He will not be fined by the PGA Tour.

The $20m Memorial Tournament at famed Muirfield Village Golf Club marks the seventh of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour schedule for 2025.

The last Signature Event takes place at the Travelers Championship after the U.S. Open in three weeks' time.

Rory McIlroy to finally address the media at RBC Canadian Open

McIlroy is now finally expected to speak with the media at the RBC Canadian Open on Wednesday.

A time has not yet been confirmed by the PGA Tour but it's likely to happen after his pro-am.

McIlroy is a two-time winner of the RBC Canadian Open following wins on different courses in 2019 and 2022.

The 2025 RBC Canadian Open is being staged at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) in Ontario.

McIlroy will start a warm tournament favourite for a third Canadian Open title.

That's because Scheffler isn't in town.

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre is the defending champion.

There will be a prize purse of $9.8m

The world's best players will then turn their attentions to the U.S. Open at Oakmont from 12-15 June.

Bryson DeChambeau will be defending the U.S. Open having pipped McIlroy to the post at Pinehurst No.2 in 2024.
