PGA Tour star Sahith Theegala ruled out of RBC Canadian Open
Sahith Theegala pulls out of another tournament as a result of ongoing neck trouble, and it casts serious doubt over his Ryder Cup chances this fall.
Sahith Theegala has withdrawn from his third tournament in the last five weeks on the PGA Tour as a result of a recurring neck injury.
Theegala, 27, has endured a wretched run of form on the PGA Tour this season with just one top-20 finish.
He started the year on the cusp of the world's top 10.
But the one-time PGA Tour winner now fall out of the world's top 40 by next Monday's update.
Theegala is also now down at 37th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings.
Unless he seriously picks up the pace over the summer then Theegala's hopes of a debut Ryder Cup appearance look bleak.
Theegala made his debut on the U.S. Presidents Cup team in 2024.
He took 1.5 points from a possible 3 during America's comfortable seven-point victory over the Internationals at Royal Montreal G.C.
Theegala will unfortunately not be back competing in Canada this week after confiming his WD from a third event in the last five weeks.
He is still struggling to sort out his neck pain that he first experienced at the start of May.
Theegala has been replaced in the field at the RBC Canadian Open by big-hitting Cameron Champ.
The PGA Tour star pulled out ahead of last month's final round of the Truist Championship as a result of neck pain.
That then forced him out of the PGA Championship a week later.
Theegala did manage to start the Memorial Tournament last week, but he was again troubled by his neck en route to missing the cut with rounds of 74 and 77.
He then confirmed his WD from this week's RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto before the start of Thursday's first round.

Theegala joins a host of players in withdrawing from this week's PGA Tour event.
The WD is a further blow for Theegala given he is an RBC ambassador, just like Matt Kuchar who was also forced out.
A number of Theegala's most ardent fans on social media are now fearing the worst for his season.
Not only is his game badly out of form, but he's gone a full month now battling neck issues.

Theegala's sole victory on the PGA Tour came at the Fortinet Championship in September 2023.
Thankfully for Theegala, he still has status on the PGA Tour in 2026.
Theegala will now be looking to get back fully fit and somehow throw his hat back into the ring for one of Keegan Bradley's six captain's picks on the Ryder Cup team.
