Scheffler, 27, was arrested just after 6am on Friday 17 May as he made his way to Valhalla GC for the second round of the US PGA.

The World No.1 was detained by police after he misunderstood the traffic flow situation into the golf club following a fatal collision that happened around 5am.

Shocking footage showed the two-time Masters champion being frog-marched to the back of a police vehicle in handcuffs.

Scheffler was then taken straight to jail and Louisville Department of Corrections soon posted a mug shot of him.

The mug shot saw Scheffler eventually heckled by his peers in a group chat.

Scheffler was booked in to his jail cell at 7.28am and released at 8.40am, meaning he was able to still compete in the second round of the PGA Championship.

He somehow went on to post an round of 66 but would go on to finish T8.

Scheffler was charged with second-degree of assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals.

The 10-time PGA Tour winner was due to appear in court on Tuesday 21 May but his arraignment was rescheduled to 3 June, a week before the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst.

Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) then released two previously unseen videos last week, while confirming the detective involved in the incident, Bryan Gillis, 'violated policy' for not turning on his body camera.

But in the latest update to the case, there is understood to be 'concern' in the ranks at LMPD that the felony charge brought against Scheffler was far too 'excessive'.

CNN's Cohen confirmed on Tuesday 28 May:

"Behind closed doors, at least some of the top brass within the Louisville Police Department have started voicing some concerns that at least the felony charge - which is by far the most serious of the charges he's facing - might be excessive here."

The update from CNN comes less than 24 hours before Scheffler's attorney addresses the media with an update on the case.

While it has not been confirmed as to what details Romines will provide, he has told how Scheffler's position remains unchanged in that he will not be taking a plea deal.

Scheffler has won four of his last seven starts on the PGA Tour, and after last week's T2 on home turf at the Charles Schwab Challenge, he has now amassed 10 straight top-10 finishes.

He will next tee up in the Memorial Tournament (6-9 June) before heading into the third major of the year at the US Open (13-16 June).

Scheffler and his wife Meredith welcomed their first child (Bennett) into the world a week before his shock arrest at the PGA.
