Scottie Scheffler has confirmed he will return to the Scottish Open for the first time in two years.

The American World No.1 will tee it up at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian over 10-13 July.

It will be the final tournament he plays before heading to Northern Ireland for The Open at Royal Portrush.

Scheffler's inclusion means seven players from the top 10 in the world rankings will use the tournament as major prep.

"It's an event and a course I enjoy playing given we only get to play links golf a couple of times a year," Scheffler said.

Scheffler last played the Scottish Open in 2023 and finished third.

The 28-year-old skipped last year's tournament in his bid to remain fresh ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris.

It paid dividends as the three-time major champ held off challenges from Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy to clinch the gold medal.

Who else is playing?

Scheffler will join Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg, Justin Rose and Matthew Fitzpatrick in the field.

The aforementioned McIlroy confirmed last month that he will also be playing.

McIlroy will also play in India for the first time as a professional later this year and has also committed to the next two Australian Opens.

Robert MacIntyre will be back to defend his title.

MacIntyre was pipped by McIlroy in 2023 but finally won 'the one I wanted' 12 months later.

The home favourite picked up four strokes in his final five holes to reel in former Masters champion Adam Scott.

MacIntyre rolled in a 22-foot birdie putt on the 18th to seal the win, sparking rapturous scenes.

"I had a tear in my eye before I hit the putt," he said in the immediate aftermath of victory.

"I was getting emotional before I read the putt. I still I had a job to do.

"This was the one I wanted, and it was the one I got. I can't believe it's happened."

MacIntyre endured a stroke of good fortune, though.

He drove his ball into the thick rough on the 16th hole but was allowed a free drop after it landed near a sprinkler head.

MacIntyre then capitalised on a more favourable lie, hitting an outrageous shot from 250 yards to set up an eagle.
