Tiger Woods has reportedly been granted permission to leave the United States to undergo treatment following his recent DUI arrest, with privacy cited as a key factor in the decision.

According to TMZ Sports, the 15-time major champion received approval from a Florida judge to travel abroad for care after his legal team filed a motion requesting permission.

The filing, submitted by attorney Douglas Duncan, stated Woods intended to "begin comprehensive inpatient treatment."

"Based upon the Defendant's treating physician, the out of country treatment facility recommendation is based upon the Defendant's complex clinical presentation and the urgent need for a level of care that cannot safely or effectively be done within the United States as his privacy has been repeatedly compromised."

Duncan added that public exposure could hinder Woods’ recovery and potentially "result in setbacks and an inability to fully engage in treatment."

The judge approved the motion on Wednesday, allowing Woods to leave the country while legal proceedings continue.

His legal team has confirmed he will remain available for future court appearances, although he has already waived his presence at preliminary hearings.

Woods, 50, was arrested last Friday following a rollover crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.

The incident occurred on Beach Road when Woods attempted to overtake a vehicle towing a trailer.

He clipped the rear of the vehicle, causing his Range Rover SUV to overturn.

According to the official police report, Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket and was acting “lethargic and slow” while “sweating profusely” following the collision.

Investigators also noted he was “hiccuping” while speaking at the scene and had to crawl out of the passenger side of his vehicle.

Deputies said Woods showed "severe signs of impairment," including bloodshot and glassy eyes.

He passed a breathalyser test but refused a urinalysis for other substances, Martin County Sheriff John Budenskiak confirmed.

When asked about prescription medication, Woods reportedly answered, "I take a few."

Woods told officers he had been looking down at his phone to change radio stations shortly before the crash, only realising too late that the truck ahead had slowed to turn into a driveway.

He was held in custody for eight hours before being released on bail and now faces charges including driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Earlier this week, Woods entered a not guilty plea through his legal team.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday 23 April, although he is not required to attend.

In a statement posted on social media on Tuesday 31 March, Woods confirmed he is "stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment” and focus on his health.

“This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” Woods said.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

As a result, Woods will not compete at The Masters next week, with Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley confirming he will not be present on site during the tournament.

This is not the first time Woods has sought treatment following a DUI arrest, having previously completed an out-of-state private programme in 2017.

While his legal case remains ongoing, the court’s decision means Woods will not be restricted to staying within Florida as he begins his recovery.
