An emotional William Mouw paid tribute to his family after overcoming a seven-shot deficit starting the final round to win his first PGA Tour title at the ISCO Championship.

Mouw, 24, fired a stunning bogey-free 9-under 61 to surge through the field at a testing Hurstbourne Championship Course in Louisville, Kentucky.

The American started the day nine shots back after the third round had yet to be completed, and then ended up being seven shots back starting the final round as he looked on from 1-under par.

But nine birdies later and Mouw had raced to the top of the board and he would not be caught.

The PING staffer finished his round some two hours before the leaders finished and his clubhouse target was good enough to see out a one-shot victory over his compatriot Paul Peterson (69), who had led after 54 holes.

Spain's Manuel Elvira finished solo third on 7-under par after a 66, and England's David Skinns (70) rounded out the top five on 6-under alongside American Vince Whaley (70).

The ISCO Championship was contested on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in the same week as the co-sanctioned Genesis Scottish Open that was won by Chris Gotterup earlier in the day.

Mouw enjoyed the biggest pay day of his PGA Tour career with a first prize of $720,000

That was under half of what Gotterup received for winning his second PGA Tour title at the Scottish Open.

Mouw is now a PGA Tour winner in just his 20th start on the circuit.

When pressed to give his thoughts on becoming a PGA Tour winner for the first time in his career and what it means to him with his first child with wife Hannah on the horizon, Mouw was instantly reduced to tears.

"I've worked so hard for this moment to happen and I'm over the moon and very happy," said an extremely emotional Mouw.

"You're going to make me cry, ah man, I'm blessed. I've got a baby girl on the way, due in September, so this one is for her, it's special and I feel so blessed."

Mouw also paid tribute to his father Billy, who has been his only golf coach throughout his career.

"This is special, we've been there for each other our whole lives, he's my biggest supporter and that was for you Dad, that was cool."
