The opening round of the 2024 PGA Championship is almost upon us.

For the first time in a decade, the second men's major of the year returns to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

The last time the PGA Championship was played here Rory McIlroy claimed his fourth major title.

McIlroy arrives at Valhalla in superb form having claimed his 26th PGA Tour victory last week at the Wells Fargo Championship

The Northern Irishman said he believed the 'stars are aligning' for him to break his 10-year major drought in the immediate aftermath of his fourth victory at Quail Hollow Club.

But McIlroy is not the only storyline golf fans will be following at the PGA Championship.

World number one Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant force in men's professional golf in 2024 and is the overwhelming favourite to clinch his third major win.

Scheffler's appearance here was in doubt as he maintained he would not miss the birth of his first child but Sports Illustrated have confirmed his baby has been born

Scheffler finished runner-up at last year's PGA Championship and, should he win, there will be much talk of whether he can complete the 'Scheffler Slam'.

Elsewhere, Brooks Koepka will attempt to win the major back-to-back again.

Koepka won the 2018 PGA Championship and won it again a year later at Bethpage Black.

The American, 34, is in good form at present having recently won his fourth LIV event in Singapore

Victory at the 2024 PGA Championship would see him become the first four-time winner of the major since Tiger Woods

It would mean he would move alongside Phil Mickelson and Sir Nick Faldo's tally of six major titles.
