Shane Lowry throws epic tantrum after not being given relief at PGA Championship
Shane Lowry was fuming after not being given relief for his ball in the middle of the fairway during the second round of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club.
Shane Lowry threw an epic tantrum after he was not given relief for his ball ending up in someone else's pitch mark in the fairway during the second round of the PGA Championship.
Lowry, 38, drove down the middle of the fairway on the short par-4 8th at Quail Hollow Club.
But when he got up to his ball he realised it had landed in a fellow competitor's pitch mark.
The golf course received heavy rain in the days leading up to the PGA Championship.
But despite the deluge, PGA Championship officials have decided not to play preferred lies this week.
That particular decision frustrated World No.1 Scottie Scheffler on Thursday.
Lowry was deemed by a rules official to not be allowed free relief for his unfortunate drive.
Despite looking embedded in the turf, Lowry's ball had in fact landed in someone else's pitch mark.
Lowry felt his ball was embededed, and so too did many golf fans on social media.
Had his ball been deemed embedded by the rules official then he would have been afforded free relief.
But the rules official said no.
Lowry was told to play his ball from where it was positioned in the pitch mark.
He then proceeded to chunk his ball about 10 yards in front of him.
A huge divot came up and Lowry lost his head by smashing the turf in frustration.
He then unleashed an F-bomb.
Lowry chipped up onto the green but his ball did not make it up on to the top level.
He two-putted from there for a bogey while flipping the bird in the process.

Lowry is fighting to make the cut mark.
He threw away a golden chance to win his first individual PGA Tour event since the 2019 Open at last week's Truist Championship.
Lowry held the lead at one stage in the final round but he was eventually defeated by his European Ryder Cup teammate Sepp Straka, who clinched his second win of the season.
The Irishman stormed out of Philadelphia Cricket Club and declined all interviews with the media.
A number of PGA Tour fans ripped into Lowry after he was seen shunning a little girl during the final round.
Lowry's tantrum was not the only one in the second round of the PGA.
LIV Golf star and Lowry's European Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton also threw one.
Hatton admitted it was not his finest moment after the round.
