Known from early in his career as one of golf's most prolific equipment tinkerers, the contents of Bryson's Dechambeau's golf bag draw scrutiny unlike almost any other golfer.

DeChambeau is renowned for his willingness to work with small, experimental brands that tailor clubs specifically to his unique, power-forward style, making his set-up one of the most eclectic and constantly changing in the game. He's also unwavering in his quest to extract the most minute advantages from his equipment, going to lengths unheard of to eke out a few extra yards or dial in his spin and angle numbers to his exact standards.

No golfer in modern times, however, has gone to the length of building their own clubs. DeChambeau, like many other players on tour, has collaborated with many brands over the years on one-off prototype models made specifically for him.

However speaking in his first press conference ahead of this week's Masters, the LIV star revealed that he's working in the background on entirely new, 3D-printed clubs that he's building from scratch.

"I'm building irons, building [a] driver, so you know, we'll see where it goes, see where it takes me." he said when asked about the latest updates to his equipment.

When asked to clarify exactly what clubs he was basing his new sticks off of, he added "it's my own personal clubs I'm building."

“All I can say now is if I don’t put them in the bag it’s my fault now,” he added with a laugh.

While many expected that it would be a little while before we saw any of these clubs actually make their way into his bag, DeChambeau caught us all by surprise at Wednesday's range session when he was spotted with one of these new custom clubs – a 5-iron, to be specific â€“ in his bag already.

He later confirmed to ESPN that using the 5-iron in tournament play this weekend was "the plan for now", however no confirmation has yet been given by the USGA that this custom club has even been approved for use.

“There’s this nature that I have about myself where innovation is a habit of mine, and I really find and take pride in that ability to learn—even through failure, even through making a bad decision or a good decision —what I can get from that,” DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau currently plays one of pro golf's most eclectic sets of clubs, with metalwoods from long-drive specialists Krank Golf, Avoda irons, PING wedges and an armlock putter from SIK. He also uses a prototype Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.

The 32-year-old also had a partnership with LA Golf which was intended to see him eventually putting a set of the brand's clubs in the bag, however that ended unceremoniously earlier this year after the U.S. Open winner was turned down when asking for a majority stake in the business.
