Cobra's new Baffler combo irons channel 50 years of forgiveness
Yes, the Baffler is back. And it might just set a new standard for affordable game-improvement irons.

Given the brand has always had such a futuristic aesthetic, it's hard to imagine any Cobra golf line approaching its sixth decade in existence.
The Baffler range, however, is the exception to this mental block. Introduced back in the mid-'70s as Thomas Crow introduced the very first Baffler rail design to improve turf interaction, the technology has been a staple of the brand's most forgiving clubs ever since. And while thick-soled, railed golf irons are now common throughout the industry, there's a strong argument to be made that they wouldn't exist without the Baffler.
As such, with the Baffler now celebrating its 50th birthday and super game improvement irons now more popular and varied than ever before, it feels like the right time for the name to return to the mainstream once more. Enter: the 2025 Baffler range: a new iron/hybrid combo set designed, in the words of COBRA Product VP Jose Miraflor, "to help golfers enjoy every swing."

As you've probably surmised from the images, the Baffler isn't going to find its way into the bags of the tour pros any time soon. This is a range geared towards those who need the most help getting the ball in the air consistently—namely high-handicappers, seniors and absolute beginners.
Every ounce of the Bafflers' generously proportioned heads is geared towards eliminating chunks, tops and off-centre hits, with the range forming a culmination of the technologies introduced over the past half-decade in other super game improvement sets like the T-Rail, DS-ADAPT Max, and AIR-X irons. The highlight in the tech list is, of course, the return of the proper baffler rails proper, with each club featuring the distinctive ridges along the sole to deliver clean contact and smooth turf interaction on any swing, from any lie.
The Baffler is also the first set to feature five different types of club in a single set, starting at the long end with a conventional iron, moving through chunky hybrid irons, into hollow and cavity back irons, and finishing with a choice of cavity back wedges.
As you can probably imagine, the lofting is pretty strong across the entire set as well—the 5-hybrid set at 25 degrees and the pitching wedge topping out at 44.
Priced to appeal to a wide range of golfers looking at their first proper set, the Cobra Baffler set starts at £599. They're available to pre-order now, and will be in stores from September 9.
