Scottie Scheffler reveals why he won't stick new TaylorMade Qi4D Driver in play on PGA Tour

Scottie Scheffler has made it clear he won’t yet be putting TaylorMade’s new Qi4D Driver into play on the PGA Tour this season, citing confidence in his existing equipment.

When pressed on why he’s yet to switch, Scheffler, 29, got straight to the point: he hasn’t seen any dramatic improvement on his Qi10 Driver, which was launched by TaylorMade in early 2024.

Scheffler enjoyed the performance of the Qi10 so much that he skipped last year’s Qi35 Driver, much like Rory McIlroy, who has already made the move to the new Qi4D this season.

The runaway World No.1, however, remains loyal to his Qi10 in an 8-degree setting for 2026 because he sees no reason to change.

After all, he's won 14 of his 20 career PGA Tour titles with the Qi10 Driver in the bag.

The famous phrase if it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind.

“Yeah, I think we’re making progress. I can be a difficult person to get a club in the bag. I’m a little bit adverse to change as it is, and I have got a driver in my bag that's won quite a lot of golf tournaments; had a lot of success with it,” Scheffler told reporters after firing a 65 in the second round of the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.

“It’s just one of those things that is tough. I’m not going to put anything in the bag unless I feel it's better. We are getting really close. There are some improvements I've for sure seen in the new driver. It just hasn't gotten quite where it needs to be in order for me to put it in competition.”

Another angle that may concern TaylorMade here is that Scheffler did initially put the Qi4D Driver in play at Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge in early December 2025.

He finished tied fourth that week, and while his driving performance at Albany was generally steady, that has been the only week he's used the driver competitively on Tour.

Since the start of the 2026 PGA Tour season, Scheffler's Qi4D has seemingly returned to the garage, with him sticking exclusively to the Qi10.

If the four-time major champion isn’t prepared to put the new Qi4D in play, it raises questions about the driver’s perceived advantage for other golfers in 2026.

Another point to note is that when GolfMagic Equipment Editor Georgina Black visited The Kingdom in USA in November 2025, one TaylorMade rep told us the company fully expected Scheffler to have the new Qi4D Driver in play to start the season.

But that has not materialised as planned.

Meanwhile, fellow TaylorMade staffers McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood have wasted little time integrating the Qi4D into their bags.

Scheffler, by contrast, continues to rely on the driver that has brought him multiple wins and consistent performance.

There is one positive for TaylorMade: Scheffler has upgraded his 7-wood to a new Qi4D model in 21 degrees.

However, just like with his driver, he has decided to not replace his 3-wood either, which remains a Qi10 in 15 degrees.

Scheffler’s form at the WM Phoenix Open so far this week has been unusually mixed.

After opening with a 2-over 74, he bounced back with a 65 to reach 4-under par and make the cut by three shots.

Scheffler last month claimed his 20th PGA Tour title at The American Express.

He will have a chance to become the seventh player in the history of the game to complete the career grand slam at the 2026 US Open in June.

The final round there at Shinnecock Hills in New York will perhaps rather fittingly fall on his 30th birthday.

Whether Scheffler will have the new Qi4D Driver in play for that potential milestone remains uncertain.

For now, he appears content to rely on the proven performance of his trusted Qi10, while selectively integrating Qi4D tech in his fairway game.
