The legendary golf course suffered from a devastating blaze on Wednesday afternoon and the clubhouse of the prestigious Machrihanish Golf Club has been completely destroyed.

The alarm was raised around 13:30 on Wednesday and firefighters worked into the night to put the furious blaze out. Luckily no one was injured, but the clubhouse will not be saved. The club steward and his family, who lived above the clubhouse, sadly lost their home to the fire.

Founded in 1876, Machrihanish was designed in part by Old Tom Morris and is ranked 42nd in Great Britain by Top100.com. The course, found in Argyll and Bute, is famous for its incredible first tee shot, thought as one of the best in the world, where players have to hit the ball over the sea.
