Golfers took to social media in reaction to the return of golf on Monday, with thousands of golfers hitting courses up and down the country as lockdown restrictions start to ease.

Two households or groups of up to six people can now meet outside, while outdoor sports facilities such as golf courses and tennis courses have reopened, as the stay-at-home Covid restriction comes to an end.

"Despite today's easements, everyone must continue to stick to the rules, remember hands, face, space, and come forward for a vaccine when called," prime minister Boris Johnson said on Monday.

It's the day that golfers across the country have been waiting for, having not been able to play a round of golf since the back-end of last year.

Although many argued and petitioned that the sport should have returned sooner, the wait is finally over and thousands of golfers returned to golf courses today.

The sun has been shining all day and the fantastic weather looks like it will be sticking around for a few more days, so if you haven't managed to get out there today, we hope you make your return to the golf course at some point this week.

"It was so good to be back playing golf again this morning. A lovely, sunny day, nippy breeze - I topped my opening tee shot, hooked the next two drives and then on the 6th normal service was resumed! The greens have been tined again so putting was a lottery. Roll on Wednesday," said one golfer on Twitter.

"Amazing to be back out on the golf course today and what a day for it! Safe to say I've got some cobwebs that need dusting, but it felt so good to swing a club again," said another.

There were thousands of other tweets from golfers, all happy to be back playing the sport they love.
