Dustin Johnson has withdrawn from this weeks' ZOZO Championship as he does not feel fit enough to compete since recovering from the coronavirus which forced him to pull out of the CJ Cup.

The World No.1 has been out of action on the PGA Tour since his T6 finish at the US Open and was scheduled to return at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, but a positive COVID test forced Johnson to be sidelined.

Due to testing positive over 10 days ago, Johnson was eligible to compete in California this week in what is set to be a star-studded field, that includes the likes of Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and defending champion Tiger Woods.

Johnson's agent spoke with GolfChannel and explained that his client is not feeling fit enough to compete on the PGA Tour this week and will return at the Houston Open, the week before the Masters.

"While he is feeling much better, he is still a bit low on energy and feels it would be best to wait and resume his schedule in Houston," said David Winkle in a text message.

"He understands the importance of not rushing things and wants to be smart about his recovery."

Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau are the only two players in the top 10 of the World Rankings who will not play in the ZOZO Championship, where Woods will look to defend the title he won in Japan last year.

The event was moved from Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan to Sherwood Country Club in California due to travel restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

It has also been announced that due to the ongoing COVID issues, this year's Hero World Challenge which was set to be held in the Bahamas in December, has been cancelled.
