European Ryder Cup hero blasts decision to alter St Andrews
Ian Poulter has mocked the decision to alter nine holes of the Old Course at St Andrews.
The Royal & Ancient Golf Club and St Andrews Links Trust have agreed to a two-year project that will toughen up the course ahead of the 2015 Open Championship, including widening the infamous Road Hole bunker by around 20 inches.
But the European Ryder Cup hero, who also shared his feelings over the banning of anchored putters on Twitter, was not amused.
“Let’s put a bridge and a windmill over the Valley of Sin as well, just as another option when playing the last hole.
“They might as well move the 11th green into RAP Leuchars air base, that’s basically what they did with the tee box at 17 last time.
“I know, let’s draw a moustache on the Mona Lisa. I’m sure everyone would like that. Same as messing with a great course like St Andrews.”
