Jason Day responds to Twitter trolls after Disney World sighting

Jason Day has hit back at his Twitter haters after he was spotted at Disney World some 24 hours after withdrawing from the Arnold Palmer Invitational through injury last Thursday.

Day walked out of Bay Hill as early as the sixth hole of the first round due to suffering an annular tear in his back - something that has plagued him for a number of years now. 

But instead of sulking in a dark room, Day took his family down the road to Disney World.

Cue social media backlash.

"So Friday, I heard there was a photo going on social media about me enjoying a day with my family," said Day, who had been instructed to keep as active as possible by his doctor.

"Heaven forbid I enjoy a day with my family, and I was there half a day walking around.

"It's like when you have a fan yell at you on the golf course, you can't - you want to go over there and get into him, but unfortunately it makes you look bad. That's the same with social media."

He continued: "I mean, I don't care, like if people make memes about me, I think a lot of them are funny.

"It's fine. It is what it is. People trying to be funny and that, I get a good laugh out of it and I'm OK with that. You can tell between people that are being funny and people that are actually trying to – that really hate you.

"When you see someone write something or someone says something to you, you feel like deep down inside you want to defend yourself. But like, you're in a better spot, you know what I mean?

"You're walking inside the ropes, you're playing golf for a living, you're doing a lot of good things. I've got a good family. I've got three kids that are healthy and happy at home. I'm in a tremendous spot."

As for taking a trip to Disney, the former World No.1 wanted to keep as active as possible despite not being able to compete on the golf course.

“When I have an injury, I get sad and depressed," he said.

"I mean that's the biggest thing. I'm not going to be sitting in my bus depressed, and especially when the doctors tell me to go and walk, so I'm going to go and make sure that I hang out with my family because I do have a life other than golf."

Despite his latest back niggle, Day claims he is fit and raring to go at TPC Sawgrass this week as he bids to win his second Players Championship title, which he last won in 2016. He also finished fifth in the tournament last year.
