Jordan Spieth returned to the 2022 Valero Texas Open on the PGA Tour to defend the title that memorably broke his winless streak.

Spieth won for the first time in 83 starts last season which at the time translated to 1,351 days since his then last victory at The Open in 2017.

The Texan native made a slow start to his defence in the last event before the first major of the year: The Masters at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau were just two elite names in the field playing.

There were some interesting story lines going into TPC San Antonio as some big names were yet to qualify for The Masters.

Henrik Stenson needed the win, as did England's Richard Bland who found himself ranked No. 53 in the OWGR.

Only the top 50 ranked players qualify. Bland needed to beat Dustin Johnson at the WGC Match Play last week but came up short.

The winner of the Valero Texas Open will take home $1,548,00 which is the standard 18 per cent share for the champion.
