FedEx Cup: Tour Championship R1 tee times featuring Rory McIlroy/Cam Smith group

After Will Zalatoris withdrew from the Tour Championship and the Presidents Cup with injury, the groups for the first round of the Tour Championship had to be rejigged.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay will play together in the top group. After his win at the BMW Championship last week, Cantlay rose to second in the FedEx Cup standings.

Before Xander Schauffele and Sam Burns tee off in the second to last group in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, Rory McIlroy and Cameron Smith will play together in what could be a renewal of the battle we saw at The 150th Open Championship.

McIlroy, looking to become the first-ever player to win three FedEx Cups this week, led by two shots heading into the back nine at St Andrews, until Smith took the shackles off.

The Australian made six birdies in the second half of the second round to reach 20-under-par and win his maiden major title. Shortly after his win, his loyalty to the PGA Tour was immediately questioned.

The 29-year-old is set to join the LIV Golf Tour, presumably after he plays in the Tour Championship and the Presidents Cup, as he has been confirmed as one of the first eight players on Trevor Immelman's side.

With McIlroy being such a vocal critic of the Saudi-backed series, this is certainly an interesting dynamic we've been presented with in tomorrow's first round.
