Jon Rahm FORCED OUT of The Players Championship

Jon Rahm has been forced to withdraw from The Players Championship prior to his second round due to illness.

Rahm pulled out some 30 minutes before his tee time with what his manager referred to as a “bad stomach bug.”

World No.1 Rahm carded a 1-under 71 in the opening round and found himself seven shots off the pace after 18 holes.

Rahm's WD now opens the door for his first-round playing partners Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy to step up to World No.1 spot this week.

World No.2 Scheffler and World No.3 McIlroy will now head out on their own in a two-ball for the second round at TPC Sawgrass.

McIlroy has plenty of work to do on Friday just to make the cut having carded a dismal 4-over 76.

The Northern Irishman ranted about his driver after the opening round.

But Paul McGinley believes McIlroy's early troubles are a result of fatigue.

McGinley had some particular strong comments about McIlroy after the first round.

He believes McIlroy is also "taking more bullets than other players" as a result of him being the lead voice of the PGA Tour.

The story was much different for Scheffler, however, who opened with a solid 4-under 68.

Rahm arrived at The Players Championship off the back of five victories in his last 10 starts.

Today marks the first time Rahm has been forced out of a tournament on the PGA Tour since his memorable ejection from The Memorial Tournament in 2021.

Rahm had to withdraw after holding a commanding six-shot lead thru 54 holes.

That was because he returned a positive Covid test result.

Patrick Cantlay took full advantage as he went on to win the tournament.
