Report: Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia to get new LIV Golf teammate
Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia will reportedly welcome back Luis Masaveu to his LIV Golf team, according to a report.
Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia is set to welcome back a former LIV Golf teammate to his side, according to a report.
Per Spanish outlet TenGolf, the former Masters champion will have Luis Masaveu back on his roster for the 2026 campaign.
The deal would reportedly see Abraham Ancer heading to Joaquin Niemann's Torque GC to replace the relegated Mito Pereira.
Masaveu, 22, joined Garcia's Fireballs team in January but was replaced halfway through the season with reigning US Amateur champion Josele Ballester.
Ballester grabbed his first win as a professional over the weekend at the PIF Saudi International.
No explanation was given as to why Masaveu was replaced, but it has been reported that he was on a "half-season contract". He played the remainder of the season as a wildcard.
Should the trade happen, it would mean Garcia's side will be made up of four Spanish players. The highly-rated David Puig is the fourth member of the Fireballs.
GolfMagic has contacted Garcia for comment.
The news comes weeks after reports suggested LIV Golf could be adding two new teams and rebranding one if its existing sides ahead of the 2026 season.
According to trademark filings, LIV Golf Inc have asked for the names Becko East GC, Southern Balindi GC and Real Club De Toros GC to become ratified.
It is understood the latter relates to Garcia's team.
Should the new teams be given the go ahead, it would take LIV's total number of sides up to 15, notwithstanding the two wildcard players.
More teams and deeper fields will undoubtedly help with LIV Golf's renewed bid to be accredited by the sports global rankings body.
LIV have also announced that they have abandoned their 54-hole format in favour four-day events in 2026, putting them in line with the established tours.
LIV Golf have only made one signing for the 2026 season, with three-time DP World Tour winner Victor Perez joining Martin Kaymer's side.
There is speculation that England's Laurie Canter will give up promotion to the PGA Tour in favour of a return to LIV Golf, according to Sports Business Journal.

Dustin Johnson resigned from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in 2022.
The two-time major winner has stepped into the winner's circle every calendar year since 2014.
But his impressive streak came to an end this week at the Saudi International.
Johnson missed the cut by three shots and told FlushingIt that he has been struggling with his driver all season.
The 41-year-old sounded upbeat about his fortunes in 2026, though, and has targeted a return to the United States Ryder Cup team in two years' time.
Two new LIV Golf players
The PIF Saudi International brought the curtain down on the International Series.
The leading two players in the order of merit earned exemptions into LIV Golf for the 2026 season.
Zimbabwe's Scott Vincent and Japan's Yosuke Asaji grabbed the golden tickets this season.
For Vincent, he will return to LIV Golf after being relegated in 2024.
