Grant Thornton Invitational: Charley Hull names replacement for Daniel Berger

England's Charley Hull has been forced to find a new teammate for the Grant Thornton Invitational after Daniel Berger withdrew from the team event involving LPGA and PGA Tour stars.

Charley Hull has confirmed emerging PGA Tour talent Michael Brennan will be her partner for the forthcoming Grant Thornton Invitational.

Hull, one of the LPGA Tour's most popular players, was scheduled to take part in the team event in Florida this week alongside America's Daniel Berger.

But on Monday evening it was announced that Berger has withdrawn from the $4m tournament, which is being staged at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples.

No explanation was given as to why the 32-year-old won't tee it up.

Berger's career has been severely hampered over the last couple of years because of a serious back injury that saw him miss more than six months of professional golf.

He returned to action in January 2024 and has since made 16 cuts from 20 starts.

Berger may have a personal reason for his withdrawal but there has also been speculation he could be the latest player to join LIV Golf

In his place steps Brennan, a 23-year-old who has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the PGA Tour.

Brennan picked up three victories on the PGA Tour Americas in 2025.

The hat-trick of wins saw him earn starts in the FedEx Cup Fall schedule at the World Wide Technology Championship, Butterfield Bermuda Championship and RSM Classic whilst he was still an amateur.

On his first start as a professional, Brennan won the Bank of Utah Championship, finishing four strokes clear of Rico Hoey.

He became only the seventh player since 1970 to win on the PGA Tour within his first three career starts. Brennan has since accepted membership through to 2027.

Hull is looking to end an eventful season on a high.

In September, she captured her first LPGA Tour win in more than two years at the Kroger Queen City Championship.

On the major championship front, Hull once again came extremely close to a breakthrough win.

She mounted strong challenge at the AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl but came up two strokes shy to Japan's Miyu Yamashita.

Hull also faced a health scare after collapsing on the course during the first round of the Evian Championship because of a virus.

The Grant Thornton Invitational begins on Thursday. Nelly Korda and her partner, Matt McCarty, are the pre-tournament favourites.

Patty Tavatanakit and Jake Knapp are the defending champions. Lydia Ko and Jason Day have also won the tournament before.
